Best dance store experience weβve ever had. Incredibly kind, attentive, inclusive, beautifully curated, and 1000x better than buying online. This is our forever dance store.

This was our second visit to The Dance Bag in Modesto, and I will never buy dance supplies online again. My daughter is in her second year of dancing, and every single time weβve come in, weβve felt genuinely welcomed and personally helped. No appointment, no rushing, no pressure. They take the time to properly fit her, explain things, and connect with her in a way that makes her feel comfortable and confident. They are truly exceptional with children, even very young ones.
The store itself is clean, beautifully organized, and thoughtfully laid out. They carry high-quality, trusted dance brands like Bloch and Capezio, and other styles and I was impressed with the variety of both narrow and wide foot shapes. I also just love the storeβs overall vibe. Their gifts, trinkets, and accessories donβt feel like random add-ons or filler like most other stores but every item feels intentionally chosen and perfectly matched to the storeβs clientele. Itβs joyful, cohesive, and honestly just delightful to browse.
One thing that really matters to me is inclusivity as we are a mixed race family and to be frankly honest, ballet spaces in particular have not always felt welcoming or inclusive for me growing up in the dance world. But this store absolutely feels like a safe space for all. The ballerina dolls, ornaments, and stuffed animals reflect a range of skin tones and wasnβt just one narrow image of what a dancer looks like. That representation is noticed, felt, and deeply appreciated.
The Dance Bag is kind, inclusive, professional, and clearly run with heart. Iβll be coming here for as long as my daughter dances and we are in the area.β

βI had a wonderful experience at this store thanks to Petra, Maria, and the other team member. They were all incredibly kind, polite, and helpful. I also want to commend them on maintaining the store so clean and organizedβit truly reflects their hard work and dedication.
That said, I do have some concerns for their safety given the visible homelessness in the surrounding area. As a suggestion, having additional male staff members or enhanced security measures could help ensure a safer environment for these hardworking employees.
Overall, the team here is fantastic, and I greatly appreciate the service they provide.

βThe salesperson Daniel was really nice and very helpful. He grabbed mine and my girlfriendβs shoe sizes and color that we wanted. We felt terrible about when he was tying our shoes to get a perfect fit. Then at the last minute, we decided on a different color. I felt like a jerk doing that to him, but Iβm happy to say he did everything we asked for. He had a great attitude and he was really fast.β

βWe shopped at all the stores in Modesto and Fresno. Martha was by far the most helpful, patient, knowledgeable, and accommodating to our needs. She was sweet and made my daughter feel comfortable. She has a huge selection of dresses, tiaras, and the best petticoats. We really appreciate your professional service and expertise. Thank you for helping us find my daughters dream dress!!β

βHad never been to this store before. I went in looking for Baggy jeans and the staff is amazing. They work together to find what you are looking for as well as give you suggestions on other options to try on. They all have such a warm, welcoming positive vibe. I do agree with others that the βadult toy/stuff section has to go. Iβm not sure if it brings in βhuge revenueβ or, βpays their rent billβ with that section, but highly doubt people go to an actual βmallβ to buy βactual adult toysβ lol. Also, with that said.
I took my teenage kid here and warned about βother stuffβ thatβs inside , (since I wasnβt sure where the βother stuffβ was) and sure enough, I saw a wall full of them so we decided to walk back out.
The adult stuff should be held in a back corner, behind a βglittery shiny reflective bannerβ to walk through so people can βsee a sign that says adults only and walk thru a nice entranceβ β¦. Ya know, kinda like they did back at the βvideo storesββ¦. You knowβ¦ youβ¦. Knowβ¦. Ownerβ

βI have been shopping at these stores for 20 years now. From Sacramento to Roseville and now Modesto! Let me tell you, I have found some real gems! I love these stores and they are by far my favorite. I don't think I have ever left empty handed. Very clean and organized. Not to mention, that their cause is near and dear to my heart. And just as a side note... After having read some of these reviews, I don't know why anyone would go to a Thrift store looking to be put on a pedestal by the employees just for the color of their skin! C'mon, just knock the chip off your shoulder and just shop. sorry for the rant.β

βAt times, you find some great deals!Other times, it can be junk! I gave it 4 stars, because when you do find great finds, the price is right! It isn't always great, but if you are on a strict budget & need to shop for cheap clothes, home goods, or maybe even a suitcase, this is a very reasonable place to shop!β
