The Monterey Hotel is a charming, historic establishment located in a prime area, just steps away from restaurants, bars, and the iconic Fisherman’s Wharf. Opened in 1904, the hotel offers a unique old-world charm, though some rooms lack modern amenities like HVAC systems, relying instead on portable fans and heaters. Guests have noted that the windows must be kept open for ventilation, which can lead to disturbances from outside noise, especially from seagulls and nearby airport traffic. Despite these issues, visitors have praised the hotel for its cleanliness, comfortable bedding, and the kindness of the staff, who are described as helpful and professional. The hotel features a cozy library with coffee and hot chocolate, and guests can enjoy a private jacuzzi spa, available first-come, first-served. Parking is available at a public lot nearby or through valet service. While some reviewers mentioned that the carpets could use an upgrade and that certain rooms might feel stuffy, the overall location and historical feel of The Monterey Hotel make it a desirable choice for those looking to explore the area. Many guests expressed satisfaction with their stay and indicated a willingness to return, particularly for its convenient access to local attractions and events.
A bit of a value hotel amongst some of the very best properties in the country. Charming but a bit tired. Could use new carpet in the rooms. Great price in Monterey though.

Rooms are tiny, no AC, no heat, no mini fridge, but the location is perfect.
