“This was truly the most delightful experience. From the moment we arrived the staff were incredible. It was story book service from the classic age of American hotels. Valets and bellhops that met you with enthusiasm, a front desk that made you feel welcome and at home, and rooms that felt comfortable and palatial at the same time. The view of the bay was unbeatable, and the hotel provided binoculars enhanced ever sea otter and aviary delight. The hotel Dining was tremendous, but nothing could beat the lounge/ great room. Sitting with other guests, sipping on wine and listening to live piano while looking out over the ocean…I felt transported.I have no doubt that hundreds of hotel staff scurried in the background of every experience to make it seemless and wonderful for us.My thanks to all at the Monterey Plaza Hotel for the most perfect wedding anniversary we have had in 24 years of marriage.”

“I don't usually review hotels, but I had such a terrible experience at a hotel in Marina, California that we refused to stay there even after we paid. As such we rebooked here at the Victoria Inn. What a great experience. The rooms were simple but clean, and comfortable and met our needs as a family. The location was excellent, close by, and just a simple walk to all the main attractions. However, the real clincher was the included breakfast. It was fantastic! They had these amazingly fresh, warm, ham and cheese croissants that were simply divine! I don't know if that is a staple for breakfast but they had them every day we were there. A really great little hotel. Well worth stopping in for a night.”

“Loved our stay! The hotel itself is beautiful, very nautical beach vibes. Rooms were super clean and lots of room. Had a courtyard view but that was fine, not a big deal for us. Had a step out balcony, so we got to open the shutters and listen to the waves and seagulls while having our pastries from Carmel bakery in the atrium area. Hotel is very conveniently located, walking distance from the wharf (which really isn’t all that spectacular) and about 20 mins from cannery row. The tv option is not that great, probably the biggest flaw. No smart tv and only live tv, movies are $20. Jacks restaurant was delicious! Definitely opt for valet parking. It’s only $7 more and the staff does all loading for you. We would definitely stay again.”

“I cannot say enough nice things about the Old Monterey Inn. The space is beautiful and serene, and the rooms are lovely while still feeling cozy. We loved having the delicious breakfast in our room next to the fireplace, and the wine and cheese happy hour was such a treat. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable stay. Highly recommend!”

“* Stayed in the Norma Jean Honeymoon suite. It may not be for everyone but it was a great experience for us. The building is old and that can be seen but it’s also unique and different than other hotels we’ve stayed at. The staff are very helpful and very friendly. I can’t say enough positive things about the free breakfast included! The Pancakes are amazing! While the weather closed the restaurant/roof top bar, having access to the beautiful view 24hrs a day was a treat. Elevator wasn’t working but that added to the charm and the exercise didn’t hurt. Again, it’s a very old building but that’s part of why we chose it! We will definitely stay again!Nearby activities: Walkable to the beach and fishermen’s wharf. Quick drive to cannery row.Food & drinks: Restaurant/ bar onsite. Free breakfast was amazing!Noteworthy details: Unique vintage features and boutique style rooms.”

“In all my years of travel, I have never left a hotel review...until now. Our stay at this property was one of the best hotel experiences ever. At every touch point during our stay, from the valet team to the check-in, bell hop, restaurant servers...everyone we encountered, we were treated with friendly smiles and a helpful, "can-do" attitude. Specifically, "Sasha" at the front desk and "Arnell "in the restaurant were amazing. The rooms were spacious and clean, the location ideal. and the hospitality world-class. I would not hesitate to highly recommend the Monterey Marriott to anyone. Thank you for creating a culture where people feel empowered to practice outstanding hospitality and bring their best selves to their work!Bill Marsh, Traverse City, Michigan”

“It's more like your typical 3.7-3.8 rating for a casual apartment type feeling here. Old buildings. There's room for improvement. Very comfortable place to stay and convenient for walking to downtown Monterey. Low key area. Decent prices with deals that can turn into $90-$110 per night. Quiet parking lot onsite. Free complimentary grab and go Costco/Kirkland type pastries, cereal, fruits, and organic fruit juices/coffee in the tiny lobby daily. Very small lobby, but rooms are generously spacious with cozy fireplace. Everyone minds their own business here and it's not far from the shopping outlets and Cinemark/Century movie theater. Staff was friendly. Only thing I disliked was the hair dryer in our room. It was a 1/5 rating because hair dryer was nearly busted, sticky/dirty to the hands, and not too functional. They really need to replace that thing. Microwave and refrigerator plus cups and coffee maker included were very clean. Bathroom decent with very good water pressure in shower area. Room was unique! Loved the interior. Nice upgraded lights. Closet and bathroom sink were small. We enjoyed the stay because it was very close walking distance to medical appointment offices too. Not bad for staying in Monterey for a few days. Cozy bed and soft clean linens for sure. Fireplace helps in the room. Slept very well here. Very walkable. Enjoyed the stay.”

“Lovely place and outstanding value - very quaint room that was well appointed and even had a fireplace. The man at the front desk was super kind and helpful. He let us check in late via a key stashed in a lockbox, ensured the Tesla charging parking space was available for us, and offered us coffee in the morning. Will certainly stay again if travel brings me back to that neck of the woods.”

“Wonderful stay. I booked for 2 nights & the room was nice & clean. Unfortunately the TV, in my opinion, was too small & I couldn't turn it on. Other than that, I recommend staying here ??”

Quiet and serene it was fantastic and can’t wait to go back!”

“BED SIZES ARE SMALLER THAN ADVERTISED! Their "Queen Rooms" actually have double/full sized beds, not queen sized beds. (I can only assume that their "King Rooms" actually have queen sized beds). They should really rename the rooms.Other than the bed sizes, the lodge was a great place to stay in - wonderful location, pool and jacuzzi were well-heated, staff was very friendly. It is still a great value hotel (I'll just book the King Room next time...)”

“It is an older motel, but they have made a lot of improvements over the past couple of years & it shows! Clean linen, easy check in/ check out, and not a lot of noise. We got a good nights sleep for a good value.Walkability: The tram line is right across the street and can get anywhere fairly easy. We saw people during the day walking around getting to their next destination.”

“A good place to stay at an affordable rate. Good location near all the major attractions that Monterey have, such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium and a short drive Carmel by the Sea. Free parking in well lit and clean parking structure, room is clean and adequate, breakfast included. Very helpful friendly and knowledgeable staff. Would recommend and be happy to come back here on our next visit in the area.”

“Good bed. Smallish rooms on ground level that open to parking lot. Clean, Large TV. Shower, no tub. Affordable price for good value. (Gamers--tv has input lag and no way to access menu for gaming mode. It was playable, but noticeable.)”

“It was just a 2 night stay but it was so amazing. We will most definitely be coming back. Mushlua the front desk girl made our check in so easy. The rooms were very clean.Rooms: Very clean and well maintained. The bed was a little hard but if that was all I had a complaint on I will take it.”

“Im rating this based on expectations at its price point. They met and exceeded all expectations. My pregnant wife and I had to travel unexpectedly and with a baby on the way the budget was tight. Rooms were recently updated, very clean, and comfortable. Shower and bathroom spacious with good hot water. Ample soap shampoo and shower gel is provided. Heater/AC worked well. Check in/out was easy and coffee was refilled daily which I dont always get even at a higher price point. Location was convenient and parking was available. Absolutely would stay here again.”

“Recent renovations, combined with a very central location in downtown Monterey, make this place a very good value. Only 10 minutes to walk to Fisherman’s Wharf, and another 20 min or so from there to Cannery Row and the aquarium. There is a Trader Joe’s about 5 minutes away if you want some groceries. There’s a refrigerator in the room but not a microwave, so you need to go to the lobby to heat things up. Despite being located on a busy intersection, the traffic noise wasn’t too bad. The staff at the desk are awesome, and the coffee in the lobby was surprisingly good (strong enough). The outdoor parking is quite convenient to the rooms, and there is also indoor parking available. There seems to be a fire hall nearby, as we heard fire trucks heading out with sirens blaring several times a day, probably the only bad thing I can say about the place. The tap water in Monterey is horrible tasting, one of the worst I’ve ever encountered (including Mexico), but there is a water filtration unit in the lobby that provides good tasting water.”

“I have been coming to the Stargazer for several years, and enjoy the accommodations very much! Upon arrival, we leave our vehicle and walk everywhere, as the location of the Stargazer is near everything. We plan on returning soon.Rooms: Our room was spacious and comfortable!Nearby activities: There is a new interactive arcade that is amazing! $10/hr, and you can play all of the video games that you want. This was so much fun!!!!Walkability: Alvarado Street is a short walk to so many restaurants, a Farmer's Market on Tuesdays, the Wharf and so much more! The Portola Hotel and Spa is a lovely place to have dessert. The options are many!”

“A super cute hotel, with old style charm. The rooms were very roomy, and clean, and comfortable. I loved the fireplace (they give you a log at the front desk when you check in), and I also loved the decor. The location is super convenient, and within walking distance of the old fisherman's wharf, which has a lot of restaurants, and was decorated for the holidays. They also have a complimentary breakfast in the mornings starting at 8am. Would recommend this place, for sure.”

“Great place to stay in Monterey. The only downside is that the elevator does not work. Good continental breakfast, which includes pastries, plain bagels, boiled eggs, oj, and apple juice. Fresh brewed coffee and fresh fruit. Rooms are deluxein size (Large studio with adequate closet space. There is a full refrigerator and microwave . Shower but no bathtub. A good value for location and accommodations.Nearby activities: Close to everything Monterey, including Pebble Beach and Cannery Row.Walkability: Good and safe to walk around the LaMesa Village”

“An isolated location from the downtown. Rooms are good. But some rooms are facing a freeway so it could be very noisy. I needed to switch my room with an extra cost to avoid the noise.”
