“Great place to find everything from seeds to trees, plus everything you need to plant and manage them. They have compost in bulk, and offer ponds and the plants that go in them too. Great staff. Very knowledgable on growing plants in San Diego and the native plants as well.
Parking is not great, but worth the little bit of effort. Love this place.”
“Hands down, Walter Andersen Nurseries are the best in San Diego and have been around for, I think, 100 years or so now. Their educational work should be noted too with their podcasts and newsletters as well, as they are very community-focused as well. Wonderful selections, friendly staff, ownership is exceptional. Generations of family member ownership make it that way I think, and I can hardly ever drive by the area without stopping in! They really know their stuff. And did I say the selection is amazing?!”

“This is a fun nursery, that's dog friendly but they must be leashed because they have free roaming chickens here. You can Meander through the garden center that takes up quite a bit of space and in the center has a very nice reading room platform. There are plenty of restaurants around to pick up lunch or even better wait till afternoon and try to make it to one of the places that doesn't open until dinner for more choices. They are friendly and knowledgeable and have a nice clean bathroom. I felt the prices were a little high but this is prime real estate in a beautiful neighborhood and it's an experience so if you're looking for destination nursery experince this is a great place to go.”
“This shop has unique finds that I haven’t seen everywhere else. It’s like Pigment but better, with artisanal food stuffs, tons of candles and a great selection of beauty products and perfumes. Highly recommend stopping in to browse! Staff was really nice as well.”
“As an individual person (not some big landscaper) I just discovered and LOVE this place. Where can you get just 1 bag of sand/lava rock/pebbles? Here! And at half the price of garden centers. This truly was an amazing find. People are helpful and friendly and even loaded stuff into my car for me all 3x I went. If you need stone or sand and an individual buyer, I STRONGLY recommend trying these people. I'll be returning.”

“I am in love with this quaint little store. Everyone was super friendly and knowledgeable about the plants. I decided to pick up a prayer plant for my mom because I think they are so neat. I'd been trying to buy a piece of it on Amazon but after seeing it on the shelf, it was calling my name. There are so many adorable items aside from plants. Believe me, I was tempted to buy way more than one plant. I can't wait to see this guy that I bought thrive.”
“In April 2026 I bought a sweet lime, a white Pakistan mulberry, in May I came here again and bought a Walnut tree. Now they are all growing well in my garden. I have visited and purchased trees from several nurseries in San Diego County. I got to say: this one is the best! better trees, better price and better service. For each tree purchased, they put the whole pot in a large black plastic bag and make a tie around the top of the pot, so that not a single dirt fell out to my car's floor. If the tree already has fruit on it, they wrap the whole tree with plastic film to protect the fruit. Father and wife or son work together to load the tree into my car and make sure every thing is safe. That's the highest level of service I don't get from other nurseries. I came in to return a shower head attachment and Teran really made sure to stop what he was doing to help me find the exact item I needed. His ability to show empathy for my situation and professionalism was by far one of the most positive experiences I had ever at a major store. I went to purchase a specific vacuum cleaner and after being told where to find them I was unable to find the one I wanted. I attempted to leave the store and go to another location and John Zeglin stopped me and requested to help me further. After researching on his computer he found that the store actually had 4 in stock. John then went above and beyond to locate the stock items that where almost hidden and then found the item I wanted, he then found the tallest ladder in the stairs and retrieved it for me. I’m truly great til for his customers service skills and going all in to help me. He saved me half a day of searching and time. Now I can enjoyed the rest of my day. Thanks John Zeglin for this.”
