“Ya know that old cliche about feeding a man a fish versus teaching him to fish? So he can eat forever? That's kinda what Spokeland is like. Maybe it would be easier to pay someone to fix my bike for me, but then I would have to keep on doing that every time something goes wrong. At Spokeland, instead of doing repairs for you, they let you do it yourself but give you helpful guidance throughout. I now know much more about fixing my own bike thanks to these awesome people! I've come here to fix a flat, change out a cassette, and tune up my brakes. The volunteers that run Spokeland have been helpful and friendly every time. Sometimes things can take a while cause they're understaffed and don't have many open hours (a few hours Tu/Th evenings and Sunday afternoons). This is fine. They're volunteer-run and can only help so many people at once. Plus the vibes are welcoming, so it's not a bad place to spend a while! In addition to providing knowledge and a workshop space, Spokeland has lotsa parts and used bikes for sale. Think I saw some helmets too. I believe they also offer classes on occasion. Not sure how often these actually happen, but they seem to range from bike basics up to more advanced concepts and look super helpful. The best part of Spokeland is their determination to make bikes accessible for all. If you don't have the money, you can volunteer to pay off your shop time. And if you prefer to use money, it's super affordable. I've been twice, fixed several things on my bike, and only paid $10 total. Not bad for to get moving again and gain bike knowledge that will help me maintain my bike-friendly lifestyle long-term!”

“I randomly found this museum while visiting my friend who lives in Oakland and I was excited to check it out. They have lots of (if not all...) consoles, games, and gaming related info and stuff. You pay $20 for unlimited play all day (I believe re-entry is available too). Definitely had a lot of fun here and I played a lot of games and they have multiplayer games as well so if you bring your friends you can play with them. I played Wii Sports, Mario games, Ghost in the Shell, Sims, Rock Band, arcade games, etc. I'll definitely come back.”

“I've been attending SCC for almost 6 years now, and have been so blessed to call it home. When I moved to the Bay Area, I visited multiple churches to find where God was calling me to stay. I knew this was the place after my first visit. I was welcomed by loving people from all walks of life with open arms. This church is a beautiful mosaic of different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds where no one person feels less important than the other. I'm so glad I found a real community of believers, who I can turn to for anything, as we pursue our calling together. “Storyline church came into my life at the perfect time when I was going through a lot of inner healing and growth in my relationship with God. There is a lot of warmth when you step into the walls of Storyline, one that I certainly wasn't used to from a previous church I went to for years. I prayed about finding a church like this and it almost seemed too good to be true to find it, but God was listening to my prayers and he delivered like He always does. The community is amazing and the church is continuously growing. Pastor Akeem loves to connect with each person who walks through the doors (which is hard to come by with other churches), and the leadership team goes above and beyond in how they connect with all the congregants. “This place is a fruit tree lovers paradise. I can get lost for hours browsing their inventory, which I must say is "A LOT"! From tropicals, sub tropicals and everything in between. They do carry more than fruit trees, so check out their website for any other interest. Prices are great for what selections and varieties they offer.Last, but not least. “So much to love about this community garden. Right in the heart of West Oakland, it's an oasis of nurtured nature. Pick up seasonal seedlings to add to your garden. Or grab fresh organic produce from their community fridge. If your lucky you might get a dozen of fresh eggs from the chickens that live in the garden. It's a sweet place to bring little ones to see how an organic farm works and then enjoy the play structure. I love this little gem and what it does for the community.”
