Safeway is a friendly neighborhood grocery store located in Montclair with convenient parking and easy access. It is a smaller, older store that feels a little cramped, with a lot squeezed into the space. The staff are nice, helpful, and more personal than other supermarkets, creating a convenient and friendly grocery experience. It offers a good selection for its size, including a deli, a butcher's block with meat and seafood, and a produce department full of fresh fruits and vegetables. The store lacks a bakery. Services include Order Ahead pick-up, Grocery Delivery, and DriveUp & Go™. While generally good for a fast run for essentials, some visits note slow staff and disappointing deli items that do not match advertised pictures. There can also be unpleasant smells in the meat and fish area.

Compact Safeway but organized and fully stocked. Smallish parking lot but not a busy location anyway.

Items are often expired. Recommend check dairy and all refrigerated products. We always check products are properly sealed. We have had several that have been opened and clearly samples (e.g peanut butter with a finger scoop out.
