I've stocked my kitchen, found the right yeasts for my meads & ciders, picked up gifts for friends ranging from those newly interested to deeply experienced in all things cooking/baking/preserving/fermenting, attended 2 food classes (highly recommend cheesemaking!) as work team building private events, and most consistently attend their Community Swaps. Now in Rockridge, I just went to their August 2026 Community Swap - my first in their new space. Imagine a place where folks from around the Bay gather to learn about, taste, & trade their homemade bounty with others. I went in with lots of some homemade jam from a bounty of summer strawberries and came away with cheese, kimchi, pickles, marmalade, preserved lemons, fermented hot sauce, limoncello, foraged/roasted bay nuts, and much more. Elizabeth and team have turned their business into a place where culture and community grows together. They could simply sell stuff, but they've create a space where culture & community grow just as much as commerce. They now have a different (and free) community class every Friday. “Sharif’s is my spot! And has been for as long as I’ve been living in West Oakland. My go to for my morning coffee, paper, drinks, fresh veggies and ice cream..and of course lil here-and-there’s like hot sauce, noodles, air freshener, TP, etc. Whole family who runs it are good folks, and they keep their store stocked and make sure they ask their customers what we need or would like to see them in keep in stock. They recently renovated/expanded the interior, and it looks awesome! Super spacious, more fridges, new slushy machines, and revamped fresh veggie section amongst other nice upgrades. Love these guys. Quintessential neighborhood corner market.”
“Trader Joe’s, Oakland (Lakeshore) I often shop at this TJ’s location but I haven’t for many months due to the fact that they were moving shelves and blocking certain area off, especially when you’re in a hurry or only had a few minutes to shop. I had to ask TJ’s employees for help looking for items too. I was in the area so I stopped by really quick to grabbed an item. At checkout, I asked the cashier if they have the new lavender bag since I didn’t see it and my best friend was looking for one. The cashier said yes and ran to grab one for me. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait in long lines trying to get one! I would come back if I’m in the area, the cashiers are pretty awesome here. The workers are also helpful and friendly. Great customer services every time I come here. They have a great salad selection and frozen foods. There’s two unisex restrooms and the parking sucks.. lol”

Or interesting drink flavors, even milk alternatives. Saw bunch of unique items in person. And first time, some new products. First time, he gave formal welcome. Nice. Normally cashiers don't say anything, also nice. Must be co owner or something, said he was gonna update page. But I don't see many owners or businesses manage pages. Even honest about dangers in neighborhood. Was also tent or pop up outside for testing virus/free vaccines, for a brief time. Cares for cleanliness. Plenty interesting sweets. And salty or savory snacks. Healthy drinks. Nice health bars Or protein section/aisle.”

The Cincinnati-based supermarket giant will open about 110 new stores in fast-growing markets by 2029 and introduce three updated store formats, executives told investors Oct. 20 at the company’s Investor Update in New York. Kroger already runs about 2,700 stores in 35 states. The formats come in three sizes, a bit like small, medium and large, matched to each market. Mary Ellen Adcock, Kroger’s executive vice president and chief merchant and marketing officer, walked through the lineup.
Walmart shoppers want a head start on the holidays, and money explains a lot of it. Some 44% of respondents call affording the holidays their top stressor, and 61% say holiday costs shape their shopping mood. Asked what would make the season easier, 70% picked lower prices and 57% picked more deals and promotions. Convenience ranks lower: 30% want one-stop shopping across categories, and 20% want faster delivery.
Walmart wants your groceries at the door before the ice cream softens. On May 29, the retailer said its 30-minute-or-less delivery had reached 33 U.S. markets, adding a wave of new cities across the Northeast. Shoppers in those areas can order from more than 100,000 items, everything from fresh produce and baby formula to pet food, electronics, cold medicine, and prescriptions. Behind the scenes, the service leans on Walmart's store network and an algorithm that factors in order size, available drivers, and distance from the store.
Trader Joe's keeps adding stores, and shoppers keep showing up. The California grocer has marked nine more locations as "opening soon," pushing its expansion into new corners of the country. The grocer also took first place in the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 supermarket rankings. It has held a spot near the top of that list for years.
Target is rolling out its most ambitious store overhaul in more than ten years, with plans to remodel over 130 locations and open 30 new stores across the country this year. The retailer is also putting money into supply chain technology upgrades to keep pace with how shoppers buy today.
