“The only thing I really use UPS for is returning Amazon packages now and then and I've been to this store a couple time and got in and out relatively quick. There's never been a line here that I've seen, not to say it doesn't happen because other UPS stores I've been to always have long lines. But so far so good. Glad to have a place like this I can run in real quick, get my receipt and be on my way, which is how it should be.”

“This store is great because they have a notary on duty much more often than neighboring UPS stores. It's very convenient. I am always glad to give them my business. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.”

“Payn's has an awesome variety of cards, journals, and other neat things. I particularly like their stamp selection. I've been hunting for cute and unique stamps all over -- and I was super thrilled to find some here. I added three more stamps to my collection today :)”

“I have been a customer since they opened decades ago. The previous owner was excellent but the current team is just as good. Gets lots of customers but the owner and staff are never flustered, always pleasant, helpful and kind. Go out of their way to be helpful. Reasonaby priced. Very knowledgeable and patient especially with seniors who are not as tech savvy. So lucky to have them in the neighborhood. Beverly Cheney”

“Had so many questions and got polite, useful and great explanations to all of them. Took pictures of pricing options with no pressure to decide on spot. Got offered to hold mail until I want it to be shipped. Got envelopes, tape, stamps, everything I needed. Thanks for the service!”

“I needed a document notarized and overnited to a title company in Washington. I found the closest UPS store in the Richmond Marina area and called. Voice mail. You know it's not going to get answered when they ask you to leave the date and time you called. Surprise, they never called me back. Instead, I headed over to see them in person. No notary there and they were not sure when she would be there. Great. From the parking lot, I called the UPS store off San Pablo. They answered and were ready to help. In about 10 minutes, I pulled up in front. Fantastic service. Very fun to talk to and would do business with them again in a heartbeat.”

“Super efficient notary, mail service, and live scan fingerprint vendor. The lady behind the desk informed me where to wait for fingerprints and the technician knew exactly what he was doing and got me in and out in about 5 minutes. Highly recommend!”

“This is a fantastic alternative to the post office for sending and receiving mail. This long-time small business offers inexpensive PO Boxes (much less than the post office) and safe package receiving, with notary services, and smart service. You can send via UPS or USPS. There is a no-nonsense vibe when you go in, but there is also a clear integrity that you NEED for mail and for notary services. I will be happy to never go to the post office again, and it will be great to not have to worry about my mail being stolen - as is happening all over the area.”

“I have been a customer at Orinda Mail Call since 2012. They provide a small number of private mail boxes (PMB's) of different sizes and provide you with a street address to get FedEx and UPS deliveries, just like competitors The UPS Store and Postal Annex do. They have a total of 120 small mailboxes to rent and 32 medium ones. The main difference between them and other mail stores is they are a single store (not a national company with franchises) and rent mailboxes for much less money: $90 for 13 months for a small mailbox, if paid for the year in full (they throw in the 13th bonus month if you pay in full). If you pay by the month, the cost comes tout o a little more. Compare this to $200-$400 a year at most of UPS Stores. You also have to pay a refundable $5 deposit for the mailbox key and another refundable $5 deposit if you want a key for 24-hour access. (They didn't have that latter key available for me when I first signed up, and it took a few weeks for them to get one since their locksmith they used was not available sometimes.) Otherwise they are open from 10 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday, and 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturdays. They are closed Sunday. The USPS post office, should you need that, is also in the next plaza, just literally a 1 or 2-minute walk away. There is also a UPS Store and FedEx Office nearby. USPS mail is delivered there usually at 10 AM, and they finish putting it in the mailboxes by noon. It is such a small space, like the size of a household bathroom. I have rarely seen any other customer in there. I like small and personal! The reason they are so inexpensive is they are part of McCalou's, a chain of small, old-time department stores in northern California. One of the McCalou's locations is next door, and is actually connected to Orinda Mail Call from the inside. (McCalou's also owns Hollyhock Cards & Gifts.) The employee only works there a few hours a day putting mail in the mailboxes. But if you need someone or have to pick up a package, all you do is ring the buzzer and they come right away from McCalou's. If for some reason no one comes in a few minutes, just walk next door to McCalou's and get someone. I've only had to do this once. Usually they come in a few seconds. They have always been so kind and courteous, and you get to know the people there. Joan is the former manager, who retired, and now Jane is (I think that is her name--I should really know as I have seen her enough times). They have always happily talked to me. They usually have one of the other employees work there on their day off. I have no complaints. They have never lost any of my mail and do not give me grief if I don't come for a month or so to get my mail, like my old post office in another state did. I don't think they provide service like The UPS Stores do, like shipping services or forwarding all your mail to another place (at your expense) when you request it (though the former manager Joan offered to do it for me since she liked me). But I am sure if you called in the would tell you what mail you have. Also, if you have Certified Mail from USPS or the like, I think they give you a slip and you have to go to the actual post office to sign for it and pick it up. I have never received Certified Mail here, but I like this option since it allows you to refuse the letter if you want (like if you are trying to avoid service), rather than them automatically accepting it. You have to realize that they are not really there to compete with other mailing stores, especially at $90 a year. They just have always provided this service, mostly to the locals, and I am sure they do not make much of a profit. This is the only mail store McCalou's has; the other locations do not have them. I am so lucky to have found them. I had to do my research, as they do not advertise.”

“So to all the Amazon customers who need to return items this post us for you. I always have a great experience with this location. The staff are helpful and patient. I returned an Amazon item and the staff was so helpful. She showed me how to find my return on the Amazon app. She was patient and had great customer service energy. I will definitely be handling all Amazon returns here.”

“My experience was very pleasant, the person who assisted me was very kind at all times when I mentioned that he spoke Spanish, he spoke to me in Spanish, he was very kind and gave me due attention.”

“I've had a box here for nearly five years now and the very few mishaps having taken place aren't even worth mentioning. The proprietor has always been fair, helpful and honest with me and others. I've witnessed her advise a customer when her shipping cost seemed inappropriate so they may choose an alternate like the USPS. You don't see that often in a competitive business environment. Five stars for Goibg Postal”

“Once I walked in, they greeted me. They also said that they were having system issues and made me aware of the delays. But once the other agent was available, they got me in and out with ease.”

“The manager and staff at the store went above and beyond to help us with a same-day urgent printing for the wake of a dear friend of mine. We had tried to get it done with four other printing stores in Berkeley and North Oakland prior to going to the Berkeley gourmet ghetto UPS location, and none of them were able and/or willing to help. There were some technological challenges both getting the file to the store’s computers, and in terms of the specs for the printing, and the manager and staff took all the necessary time and found creative solutions to work them all out. It made a huge difference to my friend’s family to have the beautiful booklet to be able to treasure, and to pass out at the wake itself.”

“I learned so much from these ladies, they taught me how to pack a box to avoid breakage. They also told me they provide packing for those that want that service. They’re always nice and pleasant. I go to this one all the time, they’ve made shipping packages easy for me.”

“I needed notary services. i used to use Wells Fargo, they don't have someone onsite in my of their remaining staffed offices. Same with AAA. Other places needed an appointment. I just walked in to this UPS store and everything was simple, professionally handled, and quick! Thanks, guys, you are the best.”

“Amazing UPS store. Had such a bad experience with another store where they refused to take our Nike return after trying to charge us for bags, boxes and tape, even though we returned 4 times with what they required. Check out review in profile for more details. They confirmed that the packaging was in great condition and took it without question. Customer service is still alive. Thanks guys.”

“Different stores have vastly different levels of quality of service. This location was very high quality of service compared to Meeker Ave in Richmond. I’d drive out of my way to get my shipping/notarizing done here.”
