After reviewing this situation, we’d like to clarify that the employee mentioned is a member of the LGBTQ+ community herself and would never make homophobic comments or act in a discriminatory way. Our team did ask the customers several times to refrain from horseplay for safety reasons, as we have to ensure the store remains safe for everyone shopping and working. The employee’s intention was never to offend, but simply to uphold those safety standards. Our store hours are 10 AM to 8 PM from Monday to Sunday. Please note that our mall gate opens at 11 AM as the mall doesn’t open until then. Regarding our bag policy, our small 5below tote bags are priced at 38 cents (including tax), and our larger tote bags are $1.38 (including tax). This policy is in accordance with California state law, and we have not offered plastic bags in our store for over a year. We appreciate your concerns and welcome the chance to provide clarity. Dollar General opened its 20,000th U.S. store on February 24th in Alice, Texas. It’s a major milestone for the discount chain that started as one small general store back in 1955. Starting with a ribbon cutting ceremony, the grand opening celebration began at 9am. First customers received some freebies - tote bags filled with free product samples and snacks from DG's Clover Valley brand.
