“The Bolinas Surf Shop—possibly also called Camellion (that’s the sign out front)—was unforgettable. It’s been around since 1963, and you can feel that history the second you step inside. Not fully ADA-accessible, with a few steps up to the main space, but overflowing with character. The screen-printed shirts, hoodies, and totes are some of the coolest, most authentic pieces you’ll find anywhere, priced between $11–20. The owner was a total sweetie. A true gem—not just for Bolinas, but for California.”

“I went to the store in Corte Madera and have also gone to the one in San Rafael. These stores are primarily staffed by very young people, mostly males. They are consistently polite, helpful and Always make themselves available to help customers! They're terrific. Must mean there are good managers at these stores and good training of staff. The stores also are very well stocked. They always have any athletic-related item I'm looking for, from beach balls to shoe laces to badminton or bocce ball sets and on and on. It's amazing. Thank you, Big 5!!”
“This store in particular has an amazing running community. Check out their Saturday morning runs at 8am. If you haven't tried mountain running, you should. I'm someone who liked skiing a lot growing up. I like Tahoe but it's a lot of work going back and forth. But being able to run in Marin, see the views, when it's warm, and then just go home, shower, and take a nap. It's a gem, amazing, and free. It's such a privilege if you live close enough take advantage of it. If you're interested, go to SFRC and get some trail shoes.”
“I walked in here today to buy a pair of running shoes for my hoped for marathon adventure next December. Owner, Peter, helped me and he immediately and correctly assessed what I needed, especially after looking at my flat feet. Been decades since I’ve run a marathon so I’ve got a bunch of work to do and I am so looking forward to it. I was so delighted to find this established, “old-school“ running shoe store that not only had the amazing selection of shoes, but the experienced staff of athletes to advise me.Feeling great today now that I came home with the “right” shoes and advice.”

“Just got GREAT deals-tall Inlet jacket, (dress blue), flurry turtleneck (white)...Illume SPF top (gray heather), got to get summer wardrobe ready...I'm a coffee shopper, cannot resist app shopping while having AN coffee. I am addicted to Athleta!!! They are the best - at 5'11" there are very few options - although I have to order talls online, I can still try most things on in the store & can figure out what I want to order. Athleta carries petites & plus sizes, and has lots of sales (check out the website, or the rack at that back of the store). Athleta just sent me a $50 gift card - I like the perks! I'll try out their online exercise & wellness classes next.”
“Fabletics has good workout clothes that I have been told is comfy and look good. My partner really like their leggings and scrubs —they fit well and feel nice. The prices are decent, especially with the VIP membership, but you do have to remember to skip the month if you’re not buying. Overall, it’s a good place for stylish activewear.”

“We’ve been REI members for many decades. I used to be so excited to shop in Berkeley and a few other stores, including this one. I admit, I’m aging out of camping, skiing, and some activities, but it feels as if this store is giving up a little, too.
Since we had a store credit and a member coupon, I went to order Brooks trail shoes. Jake helped me and he went out of his way to get everything exactly right and have them delivered to my house.
Jake’s great service offset the total nightmare service I had previously trying to exchange shoes for my husband.”
“Brad and his wife were both so helpful and enthusiastic to help me try on various shoes. When I had one picked out Brad insisted I try the shoes on both my feet and walk around a little to ensure it was a good fit. Overall, I experienced excellent customer service and and I highly recommend this store to anyone looking for tennis and pickleball gear.”

“David is THE MAN. I went to Big 5 in search of gloves, a bike lock, and thermal underwear because it was colder than Hell. He helped me find everything I needed and was SO kind and patient with me when I returned the gloves in favor of another I liked better but didn't see until after my purchase. And AGAIN, when I realized I bought a thermal bottom but needed a thermal top ? It was also an hour before closing, but neither he nor anyone else working there made any suggestions of being annoyed or bothered by my needs. In my many years working in customer service, I have had very few truly fantastic customer experiences, and this one is one of those few. Thank you guys for being exceptional. Your customers appreciate it more than you may ever know. And the best part? I'll be back the next time I need something. Without a doubt.”
