“Came in here to get my parents an introduction to ebikes, as they had never been on one before. The customer service was excellent! The selection was very good, the staff made sure to ask thoughtful questions about their use cases, limitations, wants, and needs and were open and honest about the capabilities--and limitations--of each model. They also did a staff-guided test ride, something that has not been my experience with other bike shops.”

“Went there with Alex to purchase two Penny Farthings for his San Jose bike shop. He bought a silver and black one. We loaded it in his beat up green rusty old van. It was a spilritual experience. Greg was humble, fair. Gave us a discount on the black because it was very slightly used and the silver one (I think was made of stainless steel). Alex enlisted me to help him because I had a little experience riding scrappy original Penny Farthings in the Antelope Valley in Lancaster Fair parades and in Rosamond at the Tropico Gold Mine Chili contests.”

“Choosing Castro Valley Cyclery was probably the best decision I made while buying my expensive e-mtb. I had to choose in between a local shop or buying online. I decided to go local! So I got my my Marin E-2 at CVC. What an excellent decision!Without enter into details about the process, John, the owner provided a deeply human, competent and professional service. I may write more about the details later, but one thing is certain, the personal service and competency CVC offers is incomparable with any online shopping.”

“This is going to be my new go to bike shop, FOR SURE! I called Laurel Cyclery and Jason answered the phone. I was asking him about a bike stem spacer and he said to bring it down to have a look. I brought it in and within LESS than 10 minutes he added a spacer for me, showed me how to do it for future work, and didn’t charge an insane amount for ANY of it at all. I just took my bike on a ride this morning and the fit is absolutely PERF!! Jason is THE BOMB!! ☺️ I can’t wait to go back. I wish I could give Jason 20 stars on this!”

“Trek Bicycle Oakland helped me change a tire in a pinch! My front tire on my cargo bike went flat just as it started to rain. Worse, I had my toddler with me. The shop helped me in less than 20 minutes for a very reasonable price. Great service.”

“I really like this bike shop. I've had him a just one of my bikes and assemble another one. It's such a treat being able to pop into a local shop and know that they stand behind their work.He used to do competitive writing and taught me a more efficient way to peddle. Who knew? Well they did.I really like this place, it's my go-to bike shop when I want to go.”

“My son's new bike (ordered online) had to issues since it had been assembled. The pedals loosened up w/the chain twice. The 2nd time I was fed up and thought maybe there was a defect. I finally decided to take to a bike shop. People I spoke to recommended Baylands and Centripedal. I ended up taking to Centripedal and they had great customer service and took my sons bike right in to fixed when we arrived with a 60 day warranty on the repair. My son's bike has been perfect ever since and no more issues. I will continue to use Centripedal for any bike repairs we may need in the future. They're great just like those said who recommended them!”

“Had a bunch of work done due to mileage (1200 mi) - long overdue because I was new to Bay Area and didn't have a go-to bike shop. When I arrived with my neglected bike, I just listed all of the parts that needed replacing (wrote it down myself in a notebook). I was in no rush, but repairs were completed timely (less than 1 week). Price was higher than I expected, but not ridiculous. Workmanship was also good. A few minor negative criticisms are:1. Cannot pay by credit card or debit (Yelp business description says they accept cc) - Apple Pay or Zelle only. A minor inconvenience, but this was never communicated to me by the shop before I picked up my bike.2. Poor organization. I never received a line item estimate before repairs, or a line item invoice after the repairs. The invoice I did receive (after asking for one) was simply an old-school carbon copy receipt for the total with a few checks marks on general service categories without sub-totals or even totals on parts, labor, and tax. This makes pricing seem sus. Shop would be better served to provide line item totals to make pricing more transparent.3. Inconvenient hours - 10 am - 4 pm”

“I recently brought in my ebike because the brakes weren't working properly. The man who worked on it, I think his name was Wakeem, said I needed a new tandem cable, which he didn't have but he ordered one. He tightened up the brakes as best he could and didn't charge me anything. The next week, they told me the tandem brake cable had come in, so I took the bike in. Wakeem (?) looked at it and said I also needed new brake pads. Fortunately, they had ones in the shop he could fit on. He did all that and adjusted the shifter for only $38! I have a great appreciation for the place now.”

“i had a great experience here! i recently purchased a used bike and brought it here for a tune up. one cool thing they do is allow you to authorize repairs under a certain amount. in my case i asked for a tune up, flat repair, and anything else that needed to be done under $200. i'm really pleased with the repairs, but even more happy with how i was treated. when i picked up the bike i needed to fit it in the back of my trunk, and one of the folks from the bikery spent about 15 minutes showing me how to take off the front wheel and put it back on in order to fit it in my car. they took the time to speak with me, educate me, and made sure i was confident with how to put the wheel back on before sending me off. lovely people!!”

“George and the rest of the Alameda Bicycle team are phenomenal. Alameda Bicycle maintains a fantastic selection of bikes for people of all ages and riding styles. They also have an unmatchable selection of top-tier bike accessories that is very well maintained. My only criticism is that their store is so nice that it can be almost intimidating to walk in, but their staff is there to help make your experience perfect.”

“i was an avid biker looking to build a new bike from scratch when a friend suggested i talk to chris at robinson wheel works. chris listened to what i wanted and offered suggestions, generously sharing his time and expertise and suggesting options to research and explore.a few months later, we had picked every component of the bike and he ordered the parts and assembled it for me (including wheels he laced together from rims, spokes, and hubs).seven years later, my dream bike has over 15,000 miles on it, and chris is still helping me keep it in top shape.last week, i reached out to him because on the day before a planned, out-of-town ride i discovered a part had worn out. the next morning, chris went out of his way to get me back up and running, adjusting his workflow and presenting me multiple options to make sure i'd be able to do the ride i had planned.another time last year, he did a routine service of the hubs and discovered that another mechanic had forgotten to include a tiny little spacer when they replaced my cassette (rear gears). this resolved an annoying shifting problem that had been bugging me for months.i share that anecdote because it illustrates an important dynamic: high-end bikes are carefully built, finely tuned machines that need to be built and maintained with mechanical precision. (i'm talking fractions of millimeters and precise torques, here.) do you know what a tensionometer is? if chris is working on your bike, you won't need to; you'll just enjoy a flawless ride.every conversation i've had with chris has demonstrated two things: (1) he loves bikes and knows them better than anyone i've ever met and (2) he takes pleasure in helping others find and experience the absolute joy of being on a great bike.robinson wheel works is a biker's bike shop, and i'm lucky to have found it.many thanks, chris!”
