“Fresh Dungeness Crab Oliver's advertised fresh California Dungeness Crab On visiting the seafood section there was a nice display of crab on ice. Cooked, cleaned only, will not crack Upon purchasing 2 for dinner left the market After arriving home, opening the package it was clear the meat appeared a little dry. Cracked a few legs, noticed the meat did not look right. So; tasted the meat and discovered it was mealy and dry. One crab this way is an anomaly, 2 not a coincidence. Yep? So it went that - the second crab was worse yet. Mealy cooked crab can happen one or two ways; 1. the crab had been dead for awhile before cooking, and/or 2. it was overcooked. Immediately jumped in the car to return the crustaceans. Oliver's in the normal style refunded our money. But; the lady could not resist herself to say "these are fresh from Bodega Bay every day" -- somehow excusing the mushy foul taste under the shelled bodies. Lesson learned; always buy live crabs, cook, clean and crack them yourself. Live crabs are in season, easy to find currently at $6.99 a pound. Lesson #2; the market's fish monger should not allow this to happen. It's Oliver's and quality, as-far-as I can remember, is based on excellence. Lesson #3; the customer is always right Of course I/we'll return for other meats, produce... We love you Oliver's”
