“Truckee, California. There is no real purpose to go inside the building. You have a good vantage view of this small town from the Stone Tower & the patio that is accessible 24/7. The weather was 36 degrees in June so do not think for a second all of California is beaches & palm trees. Truckee is the gateway for Reno & Lake Tahoe with Sacramento & Central/Nor Cal in general. The town has more significance than it may appear. The Donner Pass is also adjacent to this town. The tower is still a cool spot to check out, take pictures and if your lucky get in a snowfight in the early summer months =) Travel safely my friends. @cigarcpa”

“Wherever I travel, my first question is: "Where's the nearest CrossFit?"

That's the incredible secret perk of this fitness community: You can settle down temporarily next to a CF box pretty much anywhere in the world. As a traveler, it grounds and rejuvenates you. It's an instant intro to like-minded locals. As an avid CrossFitter, it's an opportunity to accept new challenges and learn new ways from a different CF culture.

For many summers, I'd come to Truckee and drop in at CrossFit Truckee Power Lab, which was an amazing space and community. When that box closed down due to COVID, it was a big loss.

When I returned to Truckee this summer, I was delighted to discover that there's a new, thriving hub for CrossFit right in the heart of Truckee. Many of the same athletes I got to know years ago at CF Truckee were now working out here!

The appropriately-named Dreamtown CrossFit is an exceptional box. The owners, Jason and Andrea, have clearly poured a tremendous amount of thought, resources and love into Dreamtown. It's not a big space, but it's stocked with equipment, sparkling clean, beautifully decorated, and very intelligently designed to maximize your CrossFit experience.

One thing I especially loved was the smooth metal handstand push-up / wall walk wall, with specially-installed hooks to accommodate bands for modified HSPU's. I've been to dozens of boxes, and I've never seen anything like it.

I am an experienced CF athlete, and I observed something quite unique about Dreamtown: It's a perfect place to drop in if you're a veteran CrossFitter, AND it's a perfect place to drop in if you're relatively new to the sport.

Here's why:

(1) If you're *experienced*, Dreamtown follows Tia Toomey's PRVN programming, which, at Rx, is VERY challenging - especially if you're still getting acclimated to being at 6,000 feet of elevation.

(2) If you're *relatively new* to CF, you'll find that many of the regular members at Dreamtown are very fit mountain folks - skiers, bikers, hikers, yogis - and they intuitively understand how to scale movements and set up the workout in a way that works with their fitness. This frees up the excellent coaches - Jason, Alex, Devon - to give more individualized attention to athletes that need more guidance.

I spent two weeks at Dreamtown, and each day it was the highlight of my summer vacation. I can't wait to be back.”
