“I brought my car to Kolben Auto Care after one of the most impressive first phone calls I’ve ever had with an auto shop. I spoke with Marc, and his energy and enthusiasm about taking care of my car were almost contagious.
I came in for an oil change and told them I probably needed brakes on both axles. Based on the mileage and owner’s manual, I thought the brake fluid might be due as well.
A short while later Marc called. Oil change done. Brakes? Plenty of life left. Brake fluid? They chemically tested it—and the other fluids—using vials and color scales almost like a pool test kit. Everything tested good.
That told me immediately what kind of shop I had found. They weren’t looking for work to add. They were finding out what my car actually needed.
They photographed my engine and cabin filters so I could see them myself. Marc said the engine filter still had life left, but with Central Valley air quality, he recommended the cabin filter. I chose to replace both.
I asked if the new cabin filter would eliminate the mysterious midnight smells of Tulare.
We agreed there probably isn’t a filter powerful enough for that.
Then Marc floored me with how well he knew my particular model. He explained what services I could expect at different mileages based on the car and how I drive it.
I’m a car nut. I read the books. I watch the videos. I thought I knew my car.
**I left Kolben knowing more about it than when I arrived.**
There was never any pressure. I knew what they found, what could wait, what they recommended and why. I was always in control.
And maybe the highest compliment I can give them: **I would be completely comfortable sending my wife there alone with the car.** She isn’t a car nut, but I trust that she would receive exactly the same honesty, respect and straightforward advice I did.
I trust Marc. I trust this shop.
