“i’ve been going to this store for probably 40 years. the items they carry are largely geared to the local homeowners, as well as equestrian folks. people who work there are always nice. the prices are a little higher than home depot but considering the convenience i never think twice about it.”
“Amazing, friendly staff! I came in needing help securing something on my car, and they went above and beyond. They worked with the materials I already had, helped me buy only what I truly needed, and even took extra steps to make sure everything was secure. Their honesty and willingness to help—even when I just needed a better grip—really showed how much they value their customers. Highly recommend!”
“If you're looking for the perfect New Year's Day vibe, look no further. We stopped by the San Gregorio General Store on January 1st and it was absolutely the place to be. Live band playing, energy was high, and the whole atmosphere just felt like a celebration.
There's something special about this spot. It's got that old-school general store charm but comes alive with music and community. Everyone was in great spirits, the band was fantastic, and it reminded me why these hidden coastal gems are worth the drive.
Can't wait to come back on another weekend with live music. If you haven't been, make the trip.”
“Nob Hill on CAL Ave. is an excellent hardware store! While small, it is packed with EVERYTHING I've needed. And, they order or bring from the other location if they don't have it at Palo Alto store! :)”
“If you have no other reason to go- this *feels* like a hardware store. I know when I say this I am speaking to a very specific subset of people. However, when I was a kid, my dad would take me with him to the hardware store, and I would get a lollypop while he and whomever from behind the counter would wander around looking for an eyebolt or the right shade of caulk. Giulio- who I assume is the owner, is easily 10 years older than my mom, who lives in the assisted living up the street. My mom can't be bothered to go to the chair yoga we're paying for, but Giulio went to work. He's not totally mobile, but he knows his s#!t. Whenever I come in, he or whoever else is behind the counter is happy to chat through my issue and suggest something. It's not a Home Depot- so they may not have what you're looking for every time- but they have a lot of things, and it makes me happy to know my money is staying local. Also, side story: One day during the summer, it's like 90, and I am behind a contractor who's getting a bunch of stuff - lumber, rocks...I don't know- but he's paying for it, and he grabs some water bottles for him and his crew and puts them on the counter. Giulio totals him up and says a number; the guy says, "Oh, don't forget these waters". Giulio says, "The town where I come from in Italy has the best water in the world, and it flows right off the mountain. If my father knew I was charging people for water, he'd come back from the dead and strike me down. Those are free." C'mon. How can you not go here first?”
“Love this place I've been going here since I was a kid
Quality wood products and miscellaneous other products that are not always available other places, quality products for a fair price
And very knowledgeable people for any projects you might have”
“Last bastion for the scrap metal yards that used to support Silicon Valley.
Too bad the writing is on the wall.
Real estate = billions, yard full of great materials = 1 million?
Best in the west”
“PV Hardware is the general store for Portola Valley. It has a bit of everything and is a reliable place for your hardware needs. The staff is friendly and the prices are good, especially for this town. It’s just a bit small and the selection can be a bit limited.”
“Great place! It's so much fun going in here and they really do have what you need for most construction needs. Remember to get your ice cream while you're there!”
“The manager was very patient while helping me. I went to this hardware store with a unique plumbing challenge. Needed hardware and water supply tubing for a commercial ice maker. The existing fittings were male compression. Super patient, excellent customer service, and went way beyond reasonable expectations helping me find what I needed.”
“I'm just a handy guy who fixes his own stuff and they've helped me out of a jam on a few occasions. They will absolutely help DIYers get parts...IF you do some research before you go there and act like you belong there. That means knowing the model number of whatever you're trying to repair and ideally the mfr part number. If you're looking for a capacitor for your AC, give them the capacitor's spec (and buy a spare!).”

“Lots of cool tools and all sorts of fun stuff for the studio woodworker. I think their wood is expensive but it works for someone without the ability to obtain flat square stock.”
“I worked with Demarcus Harris who helped me with a warrenty replacement on a 40 Gallon water heater (cal-steam did not sell me the original one). He was awesome! He also set me up with an awesome plumber Pedro D. to do the warranty replacement install. It all went very smoothly. Also, when I was at store it seemed like all the employees were kind, knowledgable, and having fun! I would definitely recommend working with Cal-Steam in redwood city.”
“This store is a gem! Run by a friendly husband & wife, this is an amazing place to get quality machinist tools, tooling, and INFO. Ask them; they're happy to share their knowledge.”
“Giving my shoutout to Jake. Thank you so much for your help in the gardening section!! He went above and beyond to help me with my visit today from making my section of a fruit tree to carrying the heavy soil to my car. There's a closer Ace where I live, but it's not as friendly as this location. I would definitely make my way down here again for my gardening needs.”
“We had Oros help us with plumbing questions and he was amazingly helpful. We were able to fix our plumbing issues without paying the outrageous plumber fees. We are so grateful that we have this wonderful neighborhood resource!! Thank you Oris!”
“The team went above and beyond to help me find exactly what I needed. They were patient, professional, and clearly know their products. Fast checkout and a smooth overall experience!”
“Great place to get dry ice for cold capping.
The only central supplier Im aware of where you can just walk in and buy however much you need, assuming its not one of the rare times its out of stock. Just call ahead to be sure <3
Staff have been perfectly friendly as long as Ive known em so Im honestly kinda baffled by the one all caps angry person i noticed in their reviews.”
“Great selection of American and European quality tools. Found some unique items and will return for other stuff I wanna get. I asked for help and asked a few questions. The guys at the store were helpful and kind.”
“Friendliest paint store on the Peninsula!! Been coming here for years! In addition to providing beautiful, quality paint, they also help you recycle old paint too!!!”
“Great local hardware shop with friendly and helpful staff. They have nearly anything you'd need from a hardware store so you can support these locally run shops instead of Home Depot or Lowe's.
I recently bought some light chain to make a clothes line with in the garage and it worked like a charm (use hangers instead of clothes pins).”
“Was looking for information on gas cylinders and exchange costs for my company. Sammy took care of everything I needed and was not only friendly and highly competent, he was very professional and HONEST which is exceptionally rare today. Thank you for putting up with all of my questions and generously sharing your knowledge and experience - you saved me hours of research.”
“I know Global Metrics handles more large industrial clients but went today based on reviews submitted and have to agree that customer service was great with and overwhelming selection. You won't regret going to this establishment.”

“If you need professional plastic fabricators for a small or large project, this is the place. Raiden fabricated some intricate shelves and covers for me, and they excelled with the outcome being awesome. Great place and great work. Very friendly as well.”
“I have been both a vendor and a client to Redwood Rental for many years. They are great people and will do whatever it takes to help with your construction project or equipment rental. Highly recommended!”
“Gillian was a big lifesaver when it came to my entire home renovation needs. With an interior design background, Gillian saw a vision for my home when I couldn’t. Overwhelmed by the selection of hardware, Gillian meticulously narrowed down my hardware needs for my entire home based on my home design. She put my anxiety & mind at ease, while minimizing my work load having her professionalism and gracious support. I am beyond grateful to have made Gillian’s acquaintance, as she exceeded my expectations with her expertise.”
“I am so glad I found this store!! I went in looking to see if they had horse related items and they DID!!! I found halters, fly spray, supplements, dewormers, brushes, hoof picks and shavings. I know they also have pellets/grains too. It had everything I needed! And they have Peepers! If you don't know what they are, they are really fun and useful reading glasses. Staff were super helpful and kind. This will be my go-to place for sure!!”
