“i’ve been going to this store for probably 40 years. the items they carry are largely geared to the local homeowners, as well as equestrian folks. people who work there are always nice. the prices are a little higher than home depot but considering the convenience i never think twice about it.”

“If you're looking for the perfect New Year's Day vibe, look no further. We stopped by the San Gregorio General Store on January 1st and it was absolutely the place to be. Live band playing, energy was high, and the whole atmosphere just felt like a celebration.
There's something special about this spot. It's got that old-school general store charm but comes alive with music and community. Everyone was in great spirits, the band was fantastic, and it reminded me why these hidden coastal gems are worth the drive.
Can't wait to come back on another weekend with live music. If you haven't been, make the trip.”

“If you have no other reason to go- this *feels* like a hardware store. I know when I say this I am speaking to a very specific subset of people. However, when I was a kid, my dad would take me with him to the hardware store, and I would get a lollypop while he and whomever from behind the counter would wander around looking for an eyebolt or the right shade of caulk. Giulio- who I assume is the owner, is easily 10 years older than my mom, who lives in the assisted living up the street. My mom can't be bothered to go to the chair yoga we're paying for, but Giulio went to work. He's not totally mobile, but he knows his s#!t. Whenever I come in, he or whoever else is behind the counter is happy to chat through my issue and suggest something. It's not a Home Depot- so they may not have what you're looking for every time- but they have a lot of things, and it makes me happy to know my money is staying local. Also, side story: One day during the summer, it's like 90, and I am behind a contractor who's getting a bunch of stuff - lumber, rocks...I don't know- but he's paying for it, and he grabs some water bottles for him and his crew and puts them on the counter. Giulio totals him up and says a number; the guy says, "Oh, don't forget these waters". Giulio says, "The town where I come from in Italy has the best water in the world, and it flows right off the mountain. If my father knew I was charging people for water, he'd come back from the dead and strike me down. Those are free." C'mon. How can you not go here first?”

“PV Hardware is the general store for Portola Valley. It has a bit of everything and is a reliable place for your hardware needs. The staff is friendly and the prices are good, especially for this town. It’s just a bit small and the selection can be a bit limited.”

“The manager was very patient while helping me. I went to this hardware store with a unique plumbing challenge. Needed hardware and water supply tubing for a commercial ice maker. The existing fittings were male compression. Super patient, excellent customer service, and went way beyond reasonable expectations helping me find what I needed.”
“I'm just a handy guy who fixes his own stuff and they've helped me out of a jam on a few occasions. They will absolutely help DIYers get parts...IF you do some research before you go there and act like you belong there. That means knowing the model number of whatever you're trying to repair and ideally the mfr part number. If you're looking for a capacitor for your AC, give them the capacitor's spec (and buy a spare!).”

“I worked with Demarcus Harris who helped me with a warrenty replacement on a 40 Gallon water heater (cal-steam did not sell me the original one). He was awesome! He also set me up with an awesome plumber Pedro D. to do the warranty replacement install. It all went very smoothly. Also, when I was at store it seemed like all the employees were kind, knowledgable, and having fun! I would definitely recommend working with Cal-Steam in redwood city.”

“I am so glad I found this store!! I went in looking to see if they had horse related items and they DID!!! I found halters, fly spray, supplements, dewormers, brushes, hoof picks and shavings. I know they also have pellets/grains too. It had everything I needed! And they have Peepers! If you don't know what they are, they are really fun and useful reading glasses. Staff were super helpful and kind. This will be my go-to place for sure!!”
