“I was on vacation with my wife and we camped near Leadville for about a week. I use cash on trips to help with budgeting. Instead of taking lots of smaller bills, I take bigger bills and exchange them at a bank as needed. After a couple of days I went into First Mountain and swapped two hundreds for twenties. The transaction was easy and the teller was polite and friendly.A couple of days later I needed to exchange some bills again. Instead of hassling First Mountain again, I figured I would try the bank across the street. I explained to the other bank that I wanted to change larger bills to smaller bills. They asked if I had an account. I said no and the teller said she couldn't exchange bills unless I had an account there. I have never had that happen at a bank before. This was cash that was going to be spent at the shops and restaurants of the town. Why wouldn't a bank in town want to make that easier for everyone?Needless to say I went across the street to First Mountain and they were happy to exchange the bills. If I were a local I would definitely be using First Mountain over that other bank.”
