“I found this market to be excellent. We had sandwiches that were great. The pizza was just good. The coffee and cookies were also great. I would definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area. The service was also friendly and prompt.”
“Used to go there years ago it's only gotten better over time like a fine wine. I was only in town for a day but I was not about to go out without that kielbasa. $50 later I walked out a happy man”
“Nice little food store, located very near the bridge of old east haddam. Conveniently located. Prices are a bit higher than the big grocers, as expected. Vegetables and fruit selection are not very good.Right next to a beer store.”
“Best espresso in the area. Authentic and delicious Italian pastries. Directly imported Italian pasta, sauces, cookies and more. There is a case of Gelato and tiny Cafe tables to enjoy your Italian treats.”
“Came for the pupusas(which were delicious) Also tried the Baliadas and the flautas. The food was amazing, the family that runs the store/restaurant was very helpful and welcoming, felt like we were in their home as opposed to a restaurant. Left with a second order of Pupusas for later and an armful of Honduran groceries. We will be back to try the Caldo de res and more!!!
A real Hidden gem on the shoreline!”
“I just love Big Y. Convenience and great service. Prepared foods are a fabulous bonus. Not a bargain store but fair prices and great selection.
Updating my review. Have been going to Big Y for many years now. Still love it. Still think some things are a little pricey but no different than any other grocery store. Very disappointed that they started charging fees for Electric Vehicle charging. They used to give one free hour of charging while you shop. I really enjoyed grabbing a few kilowatt hours while I shopped. It was a nice perk that made me choose Big Y over other stores. I am less loyal now. I shop for convenience and best sales so sometimes I end up at other stores. But Big Y is definitely still in my top three for grocery shopping.”
“This door has a really fantastic minestrone soup but unfortunately they rarely make it anymore.
They also have a great tiramisu but they always seem to run out.
They have also stopped selling my favorite cereal weetabix and alpen 😐”

“We ordered a christening cake for our twin granddaughters' baptism reception from the Big Y Bakery in Old Lyme, and it was absolutely beautiful and delicious!
A special thank you to Amanda, who was so kind and helpful throughout the process. She took the time to offer wonderful suggestions and created a cake that was even more beautiful than we imagined. It was the centerpiece of our celebration, and everyone commented on how gorgeous it looked-and it tasted just as amazing as it looked!
Amanda's creativity, attention and excellent customer service made the entire experience a pleasure. We highly recommend the Big Y Bakery in Old Lyme!”
“I frequent this great little market frequently,,usually for a coffee in the am ,today ,I bought their home made Hot and sour soup,,,,it was better than some of the Chinese restaurants make. The soup was filling and very tasty,My fave were the mushrooms,,,,They have awesome home made goodies ,meals, and I read that they just got an award for their BlueBerry Buckle.”
“They usually have everything I need except activia black cherry yogurt. Sometimes they have a decent selection and other times they don't have any at all but that is my only complaint. Cashiers are very friendly and the store is very clean.”
“We were desperately looking for vegan omega 3 supplements and could only find them here! Lots of selection and great products that are hard to find elsewhere. Produce, eco friendly cleaning products, gluten free options, etc. Friendly staff.”
“stopped by Ashland Farms for a late afternoon cup of coffee even just an hour before they close you can count on a fresh brewed cup of coffee unlike so many other places that give you the leftover when it’s about closing time”

“I have to say as a newcomer to the shoreline I would shop at this stop and shop over any of the others in the area. Their produce is always stocked and in decent shape, although I wish they would stock more organic produce at times. Three packs of the organic bell peppers especially. Their meat section rarely has anything that doesn't look fresh and appealing. Their fish department does not have an odor (Madison's you can smell as soon as you enter the store). My only complaints are the personal hygiene of some of the people working there is atrocious. A few of the younger guys working there smell lIke they haven't showered in weeks. I also have had mixed interactions with people worKing check out and now try to always scan my own groceries to avoid that part.”
“Finally got a chance to stop in on lunch. Had a turkey blt that was phenomenal. Very personable guy behind the counter (forgot to catch his name). We'll stocked store and I'm really glad I grabbed a sandwich”
“The older gentleman who works the self check out, is an absolute gem. When using wic, I had an issue at the machine. It wouldn’t cover one of the juices I had grabbed even though it should have. He immediately came over and helped me. I unfortunately didn’t have enough to cover it. He told me don’t worry about it and covered it for me. That’s something I won’t soon forget. Thank you sir. Let this be an example of the awesome people working here.”
“This is a little convenience store on a busy roadway in an otherwise quiet area. Relatively typical items for sale. They have plenty of parking. The gentleman running the store is pleasant…”

“The majority of the time this store is good but sometimes it doesn’t have what I’m looking for in stock. The staff can be hot or miss in terms of helpfulness.”
