This was a highly anticipated holiday meal for our family. I had booked a table in the Terrace Room, but we were seated in the bar area instead. It would have been acceptable, except that we were located along a very busy corridor with lots of activity and foot traffic. It was cramped and not very comfortable. The food was very good; the service was so-so. I understand that it was a busy holiday, so perhaps to be somewhat expected.

We were very excited and had a reservation for dinner. When we arrived the entry was mobbed and the poor maitre'd was being yelled at by an angry guest waiting for a table. We were told the restaurant was extremely busy but that we could be seated on the heated terrace. That was fine and cozy but after we sat at our table no one ever came over. Ever. We waited 20 minutes while we watched the waitstaff running around, never once approaching our table to pour water (our glasses remained turned over) or anything else. After a few more minutes we decided to leave and fetch our car that was with the valet for a dinner we never got to have. On our way out, I let the maitre'd know that we waited over 20 minutes without anyone approaching the table and that we were leaving. He apologized and said that several staff didn't show up for work for their shift. I doubt we'll be returning.

The restaurant was busy. We saw that. We tried to be patient. 40 minutes at the table without anyone acknowledging us was too much. We saw 3 tables leave. We should've, but we tried to cut them slack. When we were finally acknowledged, the waitress did provide good service.

A lovely spot with a welcoming atmosphere whether you opt for the more casual bar or the more formal dining room.

We werreally wanted to love the Roger Sherman Inn, especially since it promotes itself as a farm-to-table restaurant — but sadly, the food and overall experience fell far short of expectations. The setting itself is lovely: the historic inn has great charm, the ambiance is warm and inviting, and the piano player in the dining room adds a nice touch. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The lobster bisque arrived first and had an unpleasantly fishy flavor — not what you'd expect from a place that emphasizes freshness. My main course, a chicken dish, was disappointing and frankly unacceptable: raw in the center and overcooked on the outside. It's hard to overlook something like that, especially at this price point. Dessert didn't save the night either. The Pistachio Paris-Brest was stale, and the mousse filling tasted old and sour, lacking any of the lightness or flavor that the dish should have. Service was another miss — not unfriendly, but overly hovering to the point of being uncomfortable. It felt like we were constantly being watched rather than given space to enjoy the meal. The wine list was also surprisingly limited for a restaurant positioning itself as a fine dining destination. Given the high prices, the quality and execution just didn't measure up. There are many other places in the area doing true farm-to-table cuisine with care and attention to detail, and unfortunately, Roger Sherman Inn isn't currently one of them. With better consistency in the kitchen, a refreshed menu, and more thoughtful service, it could be great again — but as of now, it's not somewhere I'd return or recommend.

Menu not inspiring and food over-cooked. They have a hard time separating large loud family gatherings with children from pure adult tables. Makes for a loud experience.

We had our wedding here 5 years ago and go for our anniversary every year. We are always welcomed with open arms and a glass of champagne. My wife was not feeling well and had to leave the table several times. They made sure that a female waitress looked after her and checked on her in the bathroom. They also wrapped up our food and were very accommodating. Beautiful place and atmosphere!

The occasion was to celebrate my husbands special birthday and 10 members of our family were in attendance. We were given their private dining room and this was a pleasant surprise as I never requested it. We had such a great evening of celebrating. The food, the ambiance and the spirits along with the service was fantastic. I can't wait to go back just to enjoy the setting.

An elegant yet unstuffy restaurant in a beautiful historic Inn with wraparound dining porch, deck and patios for outdoor and garden dining as well as cozy indoor seating. The fresh oysters were incredible as were all of our meal and dessert selections. So refreshing to hear our table conversations in spite of it being a busy Saturday evening there.

The sauces are superb! The meats were somewhat over cooked for both rare and medium rare. So be sure to be very emphatic of how you want them and I am sure they will comply! The accompanying vegetables were excellent! The wine is stellar!

Roger Sherman Inn restaurant has been significantly upgraded with new executive chef, Thomas Burke, who has introduced his excellent french inspired American menu. Also a new maitre d' is a great addition. Grilled foie gras was one of the best we have had in a long time. The dover sole was also excellent. Highly recommended for fine dining.
