At no cost the team at Dutchess had me come in right away so they could look at my concerns. They confirmed that the part should be replaced so they ordered the part and scheduled the oil change and work.The day of my service I also brought up another issue that turned out to be the main serpentine belt and idler tension pulley. “Over the years, I’ve heard extremely negative things about Mavis—not this location particularly, but as a whole. I was in a bind this past weekend and needed an auto shop that could quickly fix my car and send me on my way. Given that Mavis in Pawling is about 10 minutes down the road from me, I decided to give them a shot.I arrived a few minutes before 8AM without an appointment and was able to quickly check in at the service desk. The woman behind the counter was friendly and was helpful when I told her the budget I had in mind.Unfortunately since I didn’t have an appointment, it took about a half an hour for my car to be taken into the shop. Another hour later the mechanic came out and recommended what services I would need. He accommodated my budget and not once did I feel like I was trying to be upsold.I was able to ask for updates while I waited and the waiting area was large enough where I could read without being interrupted. I also appreciated the phone chargers that were available as I spent the better half of 3 hours waiting for my car to be finished.On a slightly negative note, the waiting room was freezing and while bathrooms were available, the women’s bathroom was quite disgusting. To me, that’s just a small detail that makes a difference given how long you’re spending waiting for your car.Overall though, I’m very happy with my new tires. I’m planning on going back to Mavis next month to have my brakes serviced. The prices are decent, the people are pleasant and overall, they make a mundane task relatively easy to deal with.”

Despite their thoroughness and high quality repairs, they charge a lot less than typical dealer shops do.If a design is defective out of the manufacturer (such as a poor muffler clamp) they will do extra welding to reinforce it so it does not break again.My most recent visit was to have a rapidly worsening leak in my Silverado's transmission cooler lines repaired. While they were inspecting the truck, they found a potential safety hazard--the power steering cooler was rotted out and it carries the brake fluid, so a loss of pressure would mean a loss of brakes--not a good thing to happen on a commercial duty truck!I had them repair both, plus they quickly found out the cause of an engine stalling problem--a broken ground strap from the engine block to frame--and fixed it. Initially, the total cost was a little rough to handle, but when I looked over the invoice, I realized that so many things added up and none of them were unreasonably priced.Gil's is a bit of a drive for me, but I don't trust anyone else to work on my vehicles.”
