​I always appreciate visiting the Russell Speeders on Main Avenue in Norwalk, Connecticut, but today the staff really stood out to me. Usually, if someone tries to slip in through the exit to clean their car without a membership, they get turned around—which is completely understandable.

​Today, however, a man drove in, but he wasn’t trying to sneak a wash; he was simply looking through the garbage cans to collect bottles and cans. He didn't bother anyone or ask customers for money. Instead of kicking him out like I've seen happen with rule-breakers, the staff looked away and quietly allowed him to do what he needed to do with dignity. It was a kind, empathetic moment that I deeply respect and loved to see.

​A quick suggestion for management: It would be wonderful if Russell Speeders could set up a designated recycling bin or drop-off spot for empty plastic bottles and cans. That way, customers could easily separate them instead of throwing them into the main trash, making it much safer and easier for less fortunate individuals to retrieve them without having to dig through the general garbage!

“I've been using the Norwalk location infrequently for years. When doing so I just wanted a single, quick, no-frills wash. The cashier staff are obviously working with some kind of commission/bonus for selling the monthly passes, because they push it hard. You generally have to say 'no' to them 2-3 times before they relent and let you buy a one-off wash. It can get annoying.Then I purchased a white car. What was I thinking? In a month of ownership I've been there twice, so I figured I would try the base-level monthly and see how it goes - I'll update my results with this program here later. One benefit of it seems to be the automated entrance once you have their sticker on your windshield. This place is a madhouse on weekends, with backup traffic lines blocking Route 7 sometimes. Anything to 'cut' the manual line (where the cashiers are busy trying to sell subscriptions) seems like a bonus. I avoid the place like the plague on weekends in any event.Wash wise, it is what it is. A goofy little automated soap blast and rinse. It's not concierge service detailing, nobody hand-dries for you, you just pop into neutral and go. Want to wash mats and vacuum? That's all self-serve in the exit lot.I've never noticed scratches/damage to my car in the years I have been going there. And to all of you other reviewers complaining about the ethnicity of the staff? Screw off, you racists.”
