About Captain Nathaniel B. Palmer House Museum
The Captain Nathaniel B. Palmer House Museum is a historic 16-room Victorian mansion built in 1852, offering visitors a glimpse into 19th-century shipbuilding, family life, and international trade. As a National Historic Landmark, the house features three dollhouses and a notable history connected to Antarctic exploration. Guided tours are highly praised, with guides like June and Nancy bringing the history to life and helping visitors imagine the lives of those who lived there. Visitors can climb into the copula for a great view, though some wish for restored areas like the kitchen. The museum is especially recommended for history lovers, but be aware that summer temperatures can be uncomfortable due to no air conditioning. The museum offers affordable admission and free entry for members. Overall, it provides a fascinating and engaging experience for all who visit.

Janice was my tour guide-and was among the very best. She was thorough, interesting and made it come alive. Like I could see the people and hear the music, smell the food.

Beautiful house and museum that is worth seeing. There are three dollhouses in house! No air conditioning, so be prepared to sweat and be uncomfortable in August.
