About The Historic Hampton House
The Historic Hampton House is a true gem with a rich and poignant history that should never be forgotten. It is a former Green Book hotel that entertained the likes of many icons, from Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday to Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, and James Brown. The museum, saved from the wrecking ball, represents a bridge between pre and post civil rights society. Visitors can see the room where Martin Luther King Jr. stayed and experience the fantastic and relevant exhibitions, like the "gimme shelter" exhibition. The architecture is notable and the building is a really pretty sight in the morning sun. It is a haunting history getting preserved and examined afresh. The community is encouraged to experience this place, as it belongs to all. Guided tours are very informative. The location also hosts plays and events. Some feel the renovated theater area has lost the original glamour of the place, but it remains a highly recommended and interesting place to visit.
