Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, often known solely as Goodyear, is an international tire-manufacturing corporation. It was founded in 1898 and is currently based out of Akron, Ohio. Goodyear was named after Charles Goodyear, the inventor of the much important vulcanized rubber. Goodyear makes and sells tires for commercial trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, automobiles, racecars, farm equipment, airplanes and heavy, earth-moving machinery. In 2008, Goodyear was called one of the most respected companies by both Forbes magazine and the Reputation Institute. It has also ranked 16 on Forbes' third annual listing of brands with the best American reputation.
