“We stayed at this hotel to attend a marriage retreat hosted by my job. My wife and I really enjoyed the location of the hotel and the access to the beach it provides. We also liked that the several restaurants were within a 5 min. drive. The room we stayed in was spacious. It was better than expected. The staff was really friendly and the service was great. My wife said that the complementary champagne at check-in was definitely a plus.”

“Lovely unassuming hotel from the outside, and it is beautiful and relaxing once inside. Easy parking, great dining, and pool areas. Loved the spacious king suite... would absolutely visit this location again. Using my Amex Gold card benefits, we secured a delicious breakfast each morning from the menu, $100 hotel credit, and a room upgrade. Food took a little long to arrive, but you could see it was freshly prepared each time and delicious. The only area of improvement I would recommend is the shower in the bathroom... the head needs changing abs looked old, and the floor tiles also need refreshing. My husband thinks the tiles were repainted, I'm not sure... but they took away from the overall beautiful room. I am looking forward to seeing that simple upgrade in the future. Lovely location, lovely hotel.Nearby activities: Little tourist shops within walking distance and some other dining options. A gas station with a Dairy Queen attached is also within walking distance but also great for filling your tank before leaving the island. A short drive to mini golf and pizza, and other historical sites around that are easy to drive too. Nice to park the car and use a bicycle.”

“Wonderful resort and place to relax. We were treated exceptionally well from the time we entered the gates to the time we left.All staff are super attentive and friendly making sure you are completely satisfied with the service being provided.The facilities and landscaping is impeccable and there is plenty or nothing to do depending on whether you want to just relax or be active.Restaurants and meals were all extremely good. Although expensive as well they were actually not too bad considering how good it was.It is pricy but you do get your moneys worth.”

“Outstanding place. I had issues ordering room service for food as I could never get connected to the restaurant or front desk for 3 of the 4 days i stayed. “We stayed at this hotel just for one night. The overall impression was good value for your $. Clean and comfortable bed, modern room with outdated bathroom and clean carpets.Free breakfast was not great ( powdered eggs?)but ok and plenty to eat.Reception desk was pleasant and helpfulWalkability: Stores and restaurants are walking distance”

“Ended up in this hotel because our car broke down on the highway! The tow truck took us to an auto place he said would take care of us(which they did in a timely manner)the hotel was right behind the auto place and they were so accommodating (they even let us keep our stuff in the room longer as we had to wait for the car! Had lunch next door at Mexican! Everyone incl the auto place, restaurant and hotel couldn’t have been nicer. (Especially with our dire situation). Thanks to all? T”

“There’s a lot of chatter about this hotel, and after staying there for a couple of nights I can understand the mixed reviews. I don’t think any of these reviews are “wrong” in their assessments, but it all comes down to what you value, how you set your expectations, and maybe a little bit of luck.Heres what I loved about the Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island - because of the way the hotel was built motel style parallel to the ocean, all of the rooms (save those behind the new restaurant being built) have an amazing ocean view. You can watch the sunrise over the ocean from most room windows, the attached patio or balcony, or take a short stroll to the beach. The lobby and common area are nicely appointed and there’s the most adorable and lovely lady (Linda) who serves coffee to guests on the third floor in the mornings (with pastry like items for purchase). The restaurant next door serves a buffet breakfast and while the service is slow the food is decent and the screened in porch is divine in the morning sun. They lit the fire in the fire pit each night (doesn’t warm you but looks pretty and is a nice place to socialize with other guests) and the pool was warm. They also played an outdoor movie on Friday night that would have been very fun had it been warmer while we were there. My daughter had fun playing on the little playground by the pool. I found the front desk staff to be courteous and always available to help. I am pregnant and thought the beds were very comfortable and medium soft. The sheets and pillows were in good shape and clean too. The rooms are pretty large and have a small kitchenette area with a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. All of the guests we met were nice people and seemed to be having a good time. This is a great hotel for families.All that said, yes the rooms are worn down and they could have been cleaner. They need plumbing work and ultimately the rooms (and bathrooms in particular) need a renovation.* Part of the problem is that the foot wash from the beach is rusted out completely so sand gets tracked into tubs and the pool. While the pool water seemed well treated (i think it’s a salt water pool) it desperately needed to be vacuumed. Some of the pool cushions and seating were tattered or frayed, which is a little thing with a big impact on the overall appearance of the place. There was a cigar butt on the window sill of our room when we arrived and one of the towels had tooth paste on it. Kinda gross but not a vacation ruining experience unless you let it be.In summary, this hotel is really a fantastic value for a beach front room on a gorgeous island. If you are a looking for a high end, spa-like resort, then you should stay at the club resort on the western side of the island. If you are looking for an unfussy, laid back vibe and can overlook a few things, you’re going to love it here, just as we did!*The consideration in renovating these rooms is that it will surely make this hotel more expensive. One can’t have it all!Suggestions for management - fix the foot wash by the beach, invest in plumbing maintenance, get the pool area spruced up, consider having housekeeping clean rooms every other day so they have more time to ensure rooms are very clean between guests (especially with more attention paid to bathrooms).”
