“Always fun to wander around and discover new things! Love their premade food and desserts as well. The parking situation isn't the greatest. It usually takes us a bit to find parking but it helps that security/a worker is out in the parking lot to help direct traffic and keep things moving.”

“First of all their slippers are GREAT. Excellent workmanship and value. The staff their is unbelievable. My niece needed a special pair of slippers because of a slight birth defect, she needs 2 different sizes of shoes/slippers for each foot. When asked if they would accommodate, WITHOUT hesitation they agreed to charge me only 1 pair instead of 2. I was willing to pay for the 2 BUT they would NOT hear of it. What an AWESOME gesture. For this reason alone we should support and purchase from this LOCAL company. I have let everyone in my company to buy their products and will continue to do so to anyone I know looking for slipper. GREAT JOB KAKA'AKO KASUALS. MUCH MAHALO”

“I love shopping at Marukai! Yes, even if I have to drive through all of the crazy potholes and road construction going on! It's worth the fun of shopping here. You will find fresh local produce, imported items from Japan and more, cosmetics from Japan, local design t-shirts, bentos, plate lunches, every type of seasoning and types of shoyu you can imagine and so much more. Sometimes I feel like I'm on a treasure hunt to find something unique here. I often pick up items for the home and to send to my adult children who live abroad. We enjoy picking up hot meals from here when we are not in the mood to cook. I love the variety of mochi here as well, local made and packaged and imported from Japan. Right now you can enjoy the holiday gifts and New Year items they have for sale.”

“Great selection of snacks and Betty's cookies! Arare from abroad, li hing powder, seeds, and furikake party mix. So ono. Prices are reasonable but it can add up. Great for omiyage gifts to bring to friends and family members who now work or live on the mainland. Usually there is only one person there to ring up your order. Always a smiling face and helpful to answer your questions.”

“My love for Aloha Shirts is extra special in finding the source of the original Magnum p.i. wear. Just by chance I googled to find the labeling as "Paradise Found." There's a bit of trivial history. Tom Selleck wore various patterned shirts and now Jay Hernandez has them in the Magnum reboot series. I them was able to order on Amazon Prime! With my excitement, I ordered 3 shirts. Oops. According to the Pacific Clothing website, the sizing of the shirts run large. Canceled and recorded a size smaller. My ordered arrived in a couple of days via Amazon Prime. The original shirts were made in silk. Now they rayon, which is actually easier to launder. The fabric very smooth and the patten details are dyed beautifully. Mahalo, Paradise!”

“This was my first visit and because there is no sign on the street you have to wing it. I didn't realize this was a warehouse behind a warehouse. I kept driving around and around so finally I called and got directions and even with directions we had trouble finding each other. So I'll tell you right now pull in just before Bob's BBQ.That being said they carry a very wide range of products and they had the oily polish I was looking for. There's no AC except in the nail polish area, its a warehouse. The prices were very reasonable so I'll be back.”

“Going to the mainland? Need to bring omiyage? (of course you do!) Well, this place is one stop shopping. Tons of snacks, cookies, local style candies. They also have hard to find snacks like dried clam. Prices are comparable to elsewhere (not on sale kine) and if you live east side, it's great not having to go into town. It's on the diamond head end of Ku'ono Market, where Daiichi, Foodland are. Parking can be a royal pain though. There's always lots of cars in the lot”

“They are open to 8:30pm. It seems like they COSTCO will let you enter until 8:30pm. One thing I realized that getting to COSTCO at a very late, close to closing time, is there was no hot chicken or ribs to obtain. However, lines went super fast. The cashier was very helpful and nice.So Much Parking. All the shopping carts Work Well”

“Shopping in Honolulu's Chinatown... My friend, Jules, and I were strolling around Chinatown, when we took a detour and stopped inside of a shop called A1 Trading. Even though the door was open, I could feel some air conditioning! (Even though it's "winter", February is still warm in Hawaii at noontime)! The wall to the left was filled with all kinds of bracelets, lucky jade charms and keyrings! I got some good luck (red with a Chinese coin) bracelets that were 4 for $10 - for when I go to Las Vegas with my mom and sister. I also found a cute Hello Kitty key chain that I can give as a nice gift some day! Jules was looking at the jade bangles. They were different prices according to quality. They were offering her a discount on something that fit. However, she wanted a different bracelet that was larger and had a darker color. Maybe she will ho back after she thinks about it more... Anyway, the service was friendly and helpful. The shop had some nice items that I would get later. Now I know where to shop! Note: we went on a Sunday when metered street parking is free!”

“They have a very wide selection of container and more. I was looking for a small bento type of container to hold 3 pieces of mochi for my sons graduation party favors. I went every where and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Diamond Head Distributors was by far the best place for all my party needs and then some. A MUST to check out. They are now located at 666 Mapunapuna (the old Napa Auto Parts building).”

“One thing I like about reviewing distribution companies is that by researching, I learn about the biz and what other products they sell. HPC Foods is no exception. BRIEF HISTORY: Honolulu Poi Company was founded in 1946 by Kakuichi Tottori as a poi factory. As vegetable sales were added, the name was abbreviated to simply HPC Foods. Today, they also sell natto, tofu, noodles, won ton wrappers and salad kits. THE GOODS: Back in the day, you wouldn't have caught me eating a single bean sprout as I used to loathe them. I'd flick them out of chow fun and in any other dish they resided in. Thanks to Yummy Korean BBQ and their banchan of bean sprouts, I tried and now I absolutely love them. I have two favorite products I use from them, Mung Bean Sprouts and Chop Suey Mix. They both contain bean sprouts with the latter adding a bit of cabbage and carrots. I use either when I make fried noodles or dry mein. With the plain bean sprouts, I also make a hot garlic oil dish using blanched sprouts, shoyu and oyster sauce. The bags can be found in grocery stores around the islands and retails for about $3. The sprouts are also void of their stringy roots, making for easy preparation. OVERALL: Support locally-fresh produce!”

“This is where we get all our immunizations and prescriptions. You can now make reservations for immunizations on the pharmacy website, so we get appointments for the whole family, then line up for our shots. We've done not just Covid vaccines, but also flu, tetanus, hep a, and shingles. Would highly recommend everyone check the CDC website for which immunizations are recommended for you and then get up-to-date.We even get the dog's prescriptions for Heartgard and Nextgard here and save about 20% over getting them at the vet. It's easy, we just ask for a paper prescription at the vet when we get her annual check-up, then get the prescriptions filled next time we shop at Costco. easy peasy.”
