“I took my first pottery class in Indiana in 2002 and moved to Chicago in 2003. For the next 10 years, I searched for a studio where I could get back into pottery, but I could never seem to find a class before it filled up. Eventually, I gave up.
Then, in the fall of 2025, I finally found The Pot Shop—and I am so glad I did.
My first class back was taught by the male teacher, a wonderful instructor who was patient, encouraging, and generous with his guidance and advice. After that, I moved to a slightly more advanced class with another teacher, then moved into an even more advanced setting, and had the luck of working with Carrie, whose kind and thoughtful instruction has helped me grow tremendously as a potter. Under her guidance, my confidence, knowledge, and creative process have expanded exponentially, and I have finally started creating forms I am truly proud of.
The owner, Dominic, has also been an incredible resource, always offering direction, support, and encouragement.

They wish One River had a boarding school:) The classes are really engaging, offering enough structure and freedom, to keep my kids learning new skills while fostering their creativity.
