“Went today to buy my baby some clothes. I was shocked with how organized and clean the store is. A lot of clothes were so cheap, I felt SO BLESSED. They have plenty of books and shoes The guy that works there is very kind. Reading the comments seems like people are not happy with selling stuff here. I mean this store is trying to sell affordable stuff why would you want a lot of $ for used stuff, don’t make no sense. I’d definitely come back!!!!”

“Lots of Funkos and Toys, great deals on new and back issues, and they always have a sci-fi/comic book movie playing in the back. Awesome place to pick up some collectables.”

“The owner has a great sense of customer service. He was very patient and polite. He listened to our needs, and provide excellent suggestions. At the end we were very happy with our selection of chess set. I think in general the value of the set is reasonable and I loved it. Another part I loved: we had an amazing chat about chess, which added a lot to the shopping experience.”

“Smash Toys is everything I wanted as a kid, and appreciated even more as an adult. I've never felt welcomed in comic book stores, toy stores, or video game stores like I do at Smash Toys. As soon as my wife and I walked in, we were greeted with what felt like a sincere welcome. I can't tell you how rare that is nowadays, so I knew we were in for a treat. The store is small, BUT there is a lot to explore. Every visit we each buy something for ourselves or a gift for someone. We usually do a few passes when we visit, which is actually fun because we spot new things with every pass, and it doesn't feel like anyone is breathing down our necks. Not feeling rushed means that we can actually buy things, but it also allows my wife and I to reminisce and share stories about our childhoods. The last thing I'll say is that the owner, Jon (sp?), is passionate and it shows. There's nothing worse than a snob in a comic/game shop, so I was really excited when I first asked a question and it was answered enthusiastically instead of trying to embarrass me. I don't think my experience is unique because I've seen Jon interact with other customers, even during trades, with the same great customer service. Already planning our next visit!”

“This is such a special and even magical place, right out of a movie. I love the vintage stamped ceiling and the quirky, beautiful ornaments in the shape of every kind of animal— have an octopus, zebra, lion, and more. A wonderful place to pick out a thoughtful gift from a local small business, especially when you don’t know what to get or for the person who has everything.”

“I enjoy Barnes & Noble but I swear it is so difficult to find books in the children’s section at times because it doesn’t seem to follow much of a system for organization beyond a few categories.”

“I write this review on the 1 year anniversary of the shop's opening. The brothers that run the store set up a welcoming atmosphere for guests, they are just good conversationalists. Over my many trips to The Horror House, I have picked up monster related art, t-shirts, patches, figures and even coffee. And the coffee and all the other stuff, is so so good. They cover all the eras of horror from classic Universal Monsters, to modern horror and they cover all the genres from horror comedies to slashers. Here is my youtube review on this excellent spot youtube.com/live/80iz3Wa…”

“Great rotating selection and friendly owners. I found that though list prices on online retailers may be lower, it's better to shop here because (1) the shipping costs make it more expensive than buying locally and (2) you'll always find a hidden gem! I can't recommend this place enough. I'd give it a 6th star if they started stocking sofubi :^)”

“I was a kid in a toy store. There's a little bit of everything in here, I could spend hours exploring it all. Some prices are great, some prices are so so, but none of the prices are terrible. Some staff is friendly and outgoing, some staff a bit more taciturn.”

“I stopped by today for the first time in a decade and I had a blast with two young folks with autism who delight in all things train-themed, especially Thomas the Tank Engine! There is a very cool interactive model train in the center of the store, and then aisles of items related to trains- including art supplies, craft kids, books... and then also Legos and my favorite brand, Schleich! Fabulous Bruder trucks, too. I didn't interact with the staff, but they were present and busy helping all the customers. I also met several other train enthusiasts who were happy to share their love to Thomas the Tank Engine with my group and that was so special to me! Free street parking. McDonalds is right across the street so we stopped for milkshakes after the train store and it was the perfect afternoon!!”

“Creator Art Baltazar's personally owned comics shop. He isn't often in, but he does have events where he is present, and he invites other creators for events as well. They have $1 bargain back issue boxes by the front door and several shelves of $5 reduced price trades.”

“My husband and i sort of wandered in (i didn't think it was open since you can't tell from the street) but we got buzzed in and WOW was it worth it, an amazing collection, some of which my husband recognized from his childhood with plenty of toys and models with all sorts of themes. GREAT stock of Horror stuff and a super friendly lady at the counter. We will absolutely be back, this place is a hidden gem and well worth the trip on a rainy Satuday afternoon.”

“It’s my favorite place to get gifts for kids. The staff makes it incredibly convenient too. You can call ahead, tell the staff who the gift is for, your budget and give an idea of what the kid likes (or not if you don’t know) and they’ll find the gift options, text you pictures of what they chose, you finalize, pay over the phone, they wrap the gift, you just show up to pick it up. Voila. Love the convenience. I recently asked for 10 gender neutral gifts under $30 to have them readily available for all the classroom birthday parties we are invited to.”

“One of the best toy shops in the city. They offer a wide variety of well curated items across different eras from modern to vintage with very fair prices. Employees are helpful and the owner is honest, friendly, and clearly has a love for what he does. They also do art shows on a regular basis and sell original pieces in the shop. If you are a toy collector and are looking to fill gaps in your collection or are just curious and want a trip down memory lane, this is a must-visit destination if you're in Chicago.”

“My mother and I just stopped in for some early Christmas browsing for my 3 kiddo's. And, truly what a wonderful children's gift shop! We bought so many great thing's that you can't really appreciate unless you see them in person. I will definitely be back, and recommend this store for anyone seeking a perfect children's gift or baby shower present. Bonus points for the free gift wrap done by the wonderful sales staff!”

“this is a fun nice store to go into. sometimes if I want a big bag of candy I'll go in here. I know this store probably is targeted towards teenage people and maybe young adult people. but you know sometimes I do come in here and just walk around and look at stuff. and that's cool. you know it just is nice to walk around a nice store. see what they have in here and everything is $5 or less. and I think one time I bought these little 5 lb hand weights in here and each hand weight was $5 for the 5 lb hand weight. I still have those hand weights in there pretty nice to have. and then a few other times I've bought these little LED strip lights to wrap around my tv. and I think I bought other small things like a big giant bag of bite size candy bars and I'm sure I bought other things in here. you know that huge bag of m&Ms or that big bag of gummy bears and then you eat the whole bag in 3 days. but it's just a good little store to go to when you can't think of anything else to do.”

“The most wonderful toy store!!!! I didn't know such a store existed! You will find toys/games etc that will NOT be found in any major retail Store! Great prices and super nice stats ready to help when needed! I have 4 grandkids (ages range from 4 to 10) and as long they are kids I will never shop for toys anywhere else! A jewel of a find in Oak Park, Illinois!”

“A great place to look for toys that are a little different than your normal ones at your big box retail stores. The associates were very kind and knowledgeable. It's a great place to get a toy or child that wants to learn. Love this place a lot and the staff was extremely helpful.”

“This place was STACKED, absolutely jammed with great stuff. I could've been in there for a longer time, but they were doing good business that day so I had to get in and out. I got way more than I thought I'd want to get. The prices are exactly what I had in mind. The owner was really friendly. Extra points (six stars, if I could) for his kindness to my dog. I just happened to be walking by and didn't have anywhere to put him and he's too little to tie up. I asked the owner if I could just hold onto my dog. The owner said yes, of course, and was super-nice and funny about it. I'll be back sans dog to spend more time in there. Thanks so much.”
