“Excellent university! I'm proud to have finished a degree there. The class room sizes are small and the staff and teachers were very helpful. Just a good Christian school.”

“Oh goodness - walking into this place is like walking into a whole different world. Opening the door to this place is akin to pressing pause on the hustle and bustle of life, and ascending into another dimension for an avid suspense reader. The smell of books, the beautiful polished book cases, and the ambience are all worth a visit, if not several visits. The service and hospitality are unsurpassable - the couple running the place are the sweetest and most wonderful people, ever. And there is SO much knowledge of suspense novels coming from these two that it blows your mind. The books are priced reasonably and buying here is a lot of bang for your buck. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fort all book lovers, but especially SUSPENSE and MYSTERY readers!”

“Lots of Funkos and Toys, great deals on new and back issues, and they always have a sci-fi/comic book movie playing in the back. Awesome place to pick up some collectables.”

“Incredible place. Proud to call it my local bookstore. Excellent breadth of genres and topics available, including a thrilling grab-bag back table where I've found some true gems. Xylon and the rest of the team are always welcoming, making me feel right at home. Even if I can't find the book I'm looking for, they will order it for me directly through the distributor, eschewing Amazon and their industry-harming loss-leader book sales policy. Recommend Open Books to any Chicagoan or visitor looking for an engaging read.”

“This is such a great idea. You can have a drink and browse their stack. It's very cool with a variety of books. Also, they are open to bringing in new authors, too. Definitely, another cool local Chicago bookstore.”

“Excellent! When you walk in the store you can feel the presence of the Lord. My husband and myself were looking for KJV Bible’s to replace in pews. We found excellent bibles and will be ordering more. The couple who were volunteering are so welcoming and helpful. Thank You for your wonderful service.”

“Amazing spot with a great selection of kid’s titles but also a curated list of adult books, and they can order almost anything. The staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and the shop is often hosting event with authors reading their books for kids. Little ones will LOVE the kid door. Convenient to Main Street stop on CTA purple line or Metra, make a day of it and stop by one of the many restaurants on the same block or down one block on the other side of the train.”

“A beautiful, independently owned book and record shop, that MUST survive! Well organized, well lit, and extremely browse-friendly. BOOKS: great selection! They seem heavy on the fantasy/horror series type books, if you like those, you will be in heaven here. There are enough books of many genres though, if you are a reader, you'll find something to love here. Me, I love the rock star bios, and books about music - lots of those! RECORDS: Heavy on alternative/punk/industrial, which GREAT!!! The have enough of more mainstream music, mixed in with obscure gems to make any crate-digger happy. Prices are great, staff is friendly and helpful. Check out this little gem.”

“This is one of the best bookstores I've ever been to, and I'm a native Angeleno who has also lived in the Bay Area. If for some reason, they don't carry what you're looking for, they will always order it for you. As a poet, it' really refreshing to see that they have an extensive poetry section that carries lots of smaller and indie presses in addition to the big publishing houses. A great kids section, a fabulous selection of art books and calendars, and a great place to get Moleskine notebooks and other journals. They also have a wonderful selection of magazines.”

“I enjoy Barnes & Noble but I swear it is so difficult to find books in the children’s section at times because it doesn’t seem to follow much of a system for organization beyond a few categories.”

“They have a well-selected variety of books and will order a book for if you if it's not in stock. While perusing, I've stumbled upon a huge Betty Crocker Cookbook, a helpful dog training book, a hard-cover copy of The Little Prince, and a niche Batman-Scooby Doo comic. Throughout the aisles you will find staff recommendations that will pique your interest. If you're part of their free membership program, you get 10% off books. The vibes inside are just good.”

“SUCH A CUTE LOCAL SPOT! I would highly recommend stopping in to buy a few books here. There are so many options, so many categories, and such great options. We picked up one book (we're from out of town and didn't have much luggage space), and I wish we could've spent all day here! The staff are so incredibly nice and friendly, I love the overall vibe of this place.”

“I just needed a place to kill half an hour out of the cold, but I ended up biking home with a messenger bag full of books. Lovely atmosphere, good selections, interesting music”

“A cute little book store. It has a pretty good selection of fiction including science fiction and thrillers. They have a larger kids section than I have seen in most book stores. The staff was very knowledgeable and I overheard them answering questions to multiple patrons with different interest. They accept Apple Pay and it's comparable to target book prices! Definitely worth supporting a local business.”

“Spanish Book store neatly tucked away in the Pilsen neighborhood, it once stood on 18th street next to the Jumping bean cafe for so many numbers of years. Now its on 21th street, With lots of Space to Grow! The staff is attentive and very friendly, some are natives to the Pilsen community. I miss growing up in Pilsen and this here is a hallmark to us.”

“My wife is a big fan of Quimby's and this was my first visit. The selection was unique and vast. The ambiance was classic. The staff were friendly and attentive. There are even chairs to take a seat and read for a bit. I can see why my wife digs this place. You can't get this kind of experience online. A must visit brick and mortar.”

“Best record store in Chicago, period. I lived in Lincoln Square for 4 years and made it a part of my regular routine to stop here on my walk home from the train station at least once a week. They are always getting new goodies in so you have to go often or you might miss something good! Very well organized. Insane selection of vinyl, CDs and actually a good book collection in the back. From brand new music to classics from the 60's, they carry it all. And eclectic stuff that is tough to find. The people who work there will become your friends. Gem store in the best 'hood in Chicago!”

“A large variety of current and past books by old and new authors. Also CDs and small gifts and keepsake items for giving excellent customer service. Along with the delicious sit down and relax area and even further in the back there is an area to read on beautiful leather sofas. Well done, and thoughtfully designed .”

“Super quaint shop that's got an extensive collection of religious/philosophical texts, Buddhist symbols, and Tibetan clothing/art. The prices are a little on the higher end (I spent $60 on my first visit for a book, two mala bracelets, and a print), but I didn't mind because it was supporting a local business. The shop owner escaped Tibet at age 7 and immigrated to the US after living for years in India. They've got a great knowledge of local Buddhist community gatherings/groups, as well as information about how you should plan your trip if you ever travel to Tibet. A must-visit in the NorthShore area for any of the sangha -- beginners or long-term practitioners-- as well as folks interested in learning about other cultures.”

“It makes me happy that there are still physical bookstores left! This one is a great representative of why: it's cozy, has a ton of books, gifts, toys, board games, a Starbucks, and other bookstore-essential things. Staff are friendly, the store is clean, and everything is well-organized.”
