Indy Reads is a welcoming community and family-focused bookstore located at the old Fountain Square branch of the Indianapolis Public Library. It offers a wide selection of new and used books for adults, children, and young adults, with special sections like a children's corner featuring a huge chair and a "pay what you can" shelf, where customers can choose to pay anything over zero. The store also has a discount section with paperback novels priced at $1-$2. Beyond selling books, Indy Reads serves as a community center providing vital programs such as literacy, High School Equivalency, English Language Learning, and job readiness training, both in person and virtually. The organization emphasizes empowering adults and families to reach their full potential through these programs. Customers appreciate the friendly staff and the variety of services, including book clubs, free books, and blind date book selections. Notably, the store features a "banned books" shelf with free titles at the bottom and highlights local Indiana authors and books about Indiana. Donations are welcomed, although used books are not bought. Each purchase supports the mission of giving the gift of reading to adult learners, making Indy Reads a cherished resource in the community.
Wonderful used bookstore - also carries new titles as well. Very organized. Friendly staff. It's in a busy area but you can find free and paid street parking pretty easily.
