-19 degrees, several feet of snow, 2am, no taxi/iber/lyft available, walked 20 minutes in life threatening conditions to get there. Girl at desk refused to rent a room to me because only 20.5 years old. “Need to be 21”. Thanks for zero empathy. Stay anywhere else. I had to.

Only one good thing about this hotel: location. But if you're aiming for downtown Des Moines, just get another hotel. Old, dirty, bad service. The number of people running this place is probably less than 10. Room felt nasty, very old furniture. Windows haven't been cleaned in ages, the curtains have collected 10 years of dust. The toilet keeps running. Breakfast is worse than you'd expect.Rooms: Terrible. Old. Dusty. Cold.

For the price we paid it was satisfactory. I agree it needs renovated. Staff especially Deborah were all exceptionally kind, she even upgraded our room to a suite. Wasn't the greatest room and had a an odd smell but nothing to complain about, it was clean. The parking was a little frustrating with it being so pricey but again we got a good deal on the room and they waved a day of parking fees. All in all a pleasant stay.

This place needs a renovation badly. The rooms were outdated and felt old and dirty. When checking out the pull out sofa found quite a bit of trash under the couch. Rooms are not set up like newer hyatt places with a seperste living area. Couch in room was dirty and sagged. Service from Jodi at the front desk was great throughout the entire experience. Food was not worth being included in the rate went out to eat.Walkability: Close to everything downtown which is why thos location was selected

September 8, 2023 – September 10, 2023 We came into town for what should’ve been a wonderful, peaceful weekend for our granddaughter’s 1st birthday party. All was well “OUTSIDE” of the hotel. Upon arriving, checked in. Desk clerk, really nice (thank you Peggy). Went to our room, it’s a must I check bed linens before I lay my head!! NASTY/DIRTY! I phoned down to front desk, was asked if I wanted linens changed or a room switch OF COURSE ROOM SWITCH!!! Was placed in a more spacious room with CLEAN linens so happy once again. Saturday morning breakfast – THE BEST & TRULY the only thing the Hyatt has going – thank you to the kitchen staff (which I only saw one lady the whole time; but it was clean and plenty). Saturday before leaving the hotel to start our day, my husband noticed not one but TWO charges debiting funds from our account that totaled to $276.61. Stopped and spoke to desk clerk regarding the charges and unfortunately wasn’t able to advise. Stated a note would be sent to manager. We went about our day and later that night, ANOTHER (3RD DEBIT) of $263.09 was taken. NOW I’m upset (as nothing bothers my husband). Once returning back to the hotel, stopped to inquire about the charges (although a nice guy – Thank you Joshua) wasn’t able to provide an answer as to why the charges were there. On top of the charges, my husband went down to get two wash clothes (since they were UNDER STAFFED) and I knew it’d be forever getting the towels. He comes back with hand towels??? I was getting ready to say hun, I asked for…… he states, “this is all they had”, front desk clerk tells him he’s been trying to get housekeeping to leave bath towels for last couple of nights and still hasn’t received them. Anyways, 4am had a flight so never got to do a face to face with the manager of the hotel. Returning home, the debit for FINAL hotel stay was pulled $301.61. So for 2 nights a total of $841.31 was pulled from our account for what should have been ONLY $301.61 (room and parking). Of course I call the hotel, Joshua is obviously the only one that works there because he’s the only one I’ve been able to get a hold of and speak with. A.M call he tells me that the manger explained the card was routed wrong – WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN??? As I explained to him, we arrived, showed identification and placed card in their machine for payment transaction and by doing that we get multiple charges? Joshua states, the person that checked us in should not have ran the card and it was already done during booking. He asked did I remember who checked us in, YES, PEGGY. He states well Peggy knows not to do that so she would not have done that. My rebuttal, well she did and we now have multiple charges. Joshua was going to speak with the acting manager of the day Monday, September 11, 2023 once they came in and get back to me. Hadn’t received a call as of 2:15pm so called myself. Again, Joshua answers and informs me that the extra charges were authorization charges and would fall off in 10dys. So to sum it up- NOT ONE authorization charge but THREE AUTHORIZATION CHARGES???? NO, I’M NOT BUYING IT and then 10dys WE DON’T GET OUR MONEY BACK UNTIL…… HYATT PLACE DESMOINES NEVER AGAIN! Here’s a tip – NEW MANGERS, MORE STAFF, GET A NEW DRYER (reason told why there’s dirty, marked up linens)

On the contrary to what has been written here I found this hotel quite acceptable. The room is not new nor modern but it‘s clean.Parking in the garage across the street was also hassle-free. The room key can be used to open the gate. I could drive in and out as many times as I wanted. There is a check-in and drop-off parking spot directly in front of the entrance. Up to 20minRoom cleaning only on demand what would keep me from this hotel next time.Breakfast is standard 2-3 stars hotel

Our suite wasn't a suite it was small. The pull out bed was small more like a single/full size. The king bed was very comfortable. There wasn't much water pressure when taking a shower. The time the shower was taken was not even a high usage time. The room felt like it was out of date and a little old. Make sure if you park across the street from the hotel you have a key to get in and out. I wasn't told this bit of information so another person let me use their card to exit the garage. He even said this is a cluster. I wouldn't stay here again.

There is access to the skywalk where there is a Smokey D's during lunch hours 11am-2pm. They have a pool and a workout area that includes treadmills and dumbbells. They have warm breakfast every week day from 6:30am-9:00am. On the weekends it's 7am-10am. It is served in the lobby area. There is a microwave in the lobby also tea and coffee can be made as well. The parking garage is conveniently across the street you just use your room key to get in and out. Close enough to bars and restaurants for a nice walk.

1 working elevator. I was early and went to front desk. She told me a room would be available in about an hour. I sat and worked in the lobby right in front of the clerk for 2 1/2 hours waiting. I didn't want to be rude but finally went to ask. She asked my name like she never saw me before. There was a CLUMP of hair in my shower.

This Hyatt is a special dose of misery, and I will never again stay in a Hyatt hotel for as long as I draw breath.First of all, you are in down town Des Moines, Iowa and if you land after 5, you are not eating, the sidewalks are rolled up, fine, that is normal in small towns. These rooms have no microwave, a fridge that does not work and faucets which leak top and bottom of the sink. There is no store in the hotel either, no little shop just a really, really bad breakfast. Frozen entrées from Walmart would be preferable, but hey, no way to heat up food in your room. Each floor shares a hot water heater, so about 6:00 AM, all that hot water is gone and in my experience, takes about 3 hours to come back. Our room smelled like pure mildew, this is in the top suite for the record, not the lower rooms where they truly do not care. The Air Conditioning is beyond loud and is either on or off, so you either freeze or bake, the thermostat either does nothing or is mounted in another building in another state. When you give this place your credit card for incidentals, they actually go ahead and just start charging you over and over for random stuff, and when you ask, they literally do not know what the fees are.So Hyatt does not train their employees, not a shocker, they just dangle them in front of angry guests to protect themselves from having to justify their charges. The elevators. OMG, there is one working elevator in this entire hotel. I was 20 minutes late for work here because I waited 20 minutes for an elevator and did not have a way to haul my luggage down 8 floors of stairs.Do not stay in this hotel, I am dead serious, it is bad for your health.Combine the mold/mildew on the carpets and ceilings, the no-view where all you see is graffiti and hey, more mold, yum. There are tons of homeless who sleep in the garage and surrounding alleys, you cannot walk anywhere without being harassed with everyone's sob story, this has happened twice a day since I have been here. The hotel does nothing about it, you report something to them and they always have to "Call my manager"The parking garage here smells like pure urine. Yes, Urine. And it is super pungent I smelled it from across the street. I imagine from all the homeless who live in there, and then they charge $18 a day to park in there. I would recommend not parking there, because again, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.The pool is a glorified bathtub. It is more like a cold hot tub without jets, also, smells like pure urine and the water is cloudy & out of balance. The gym has 2 Treadmills, only one is working and 1 elliptical. If you have any home gym equipment, at all, you have far superior setup to this hotel, owned by a corporation worth $11.75 Billion dollars and they cannot drop $300 on a treadmill or any money on maintaining this building? The mattresses are like many hotels, they seem soft, but once you lay down it is like laying on a piece of plywood sitting on a pile of uneven cotton.Yeah, I think that is about it.Avoid this hotel. I am serious, Hyatt simply does not care about their customers and it is clear this has been their business model all along, when they eventually fail and have to be bailed out for the Nth time, do not be surprised.I was wrong, I need to add one more problem...This hotel is infested with Drain Flies, especially in the basement where you can smell raw sewage. If you need to, Google Drain Flies, you will find they spawn where raw sewage is allowed to stagnate. So, please consider this when booking.Enjoy!

Rooms were clean-ish. I found makeup under the bathroom shelf, not hidden. My friend had mascara on her sheets. The restaurant is closed, and not many places are open for dinner within walking distance. Service was ok. The breakfast food was good.
