Hyatt Place Des Moines/Downtown offers a very convenient location near the highway, which is frequently noted as a great asset. The staff are generally described as good, friendly, and helpful. The hotel provides free breakfast and can represent a decent value or great deal for the price. However, the property is widely seen as outdated, worn, and in need of a complete renovation. Common complaints include uncomfortable, squeaky beds; dated and sometimes unclean rooms with issues like stained floors or soiled bedding; and maintenance problems like inconsistent hot water, malfunctioning elevators, and a persistent musty or hospital-like smell. While the hotel is clean in some aspects, overall experiences suggest it falls short of the Hyatt brand standard, leading many guests to state they would stay elsewhere in the future.
Rooms are a bit worn. Breakfast wasn't worth considering unless you love powdered eggs and biscuits and gravy and waffles. It was clean and decently priced.

Staff was good and helpful. The rooms were average. Bathrooms were neat, but the bed was uncomfortable, we only stayed there for a night and the bed didn’t make it any pleasant. It was making too many sounds. But overall okay. Location was very convenient from the highwa.

Great deal, great location. Our room had toilet paper in the toilet when we first checked in. The front desk was quick to change our room. Seems like the average clean jobs of average hotels. Free breakfast. Cannot beat the location. Cheaper to find parking yourself.
