About Old Governor's Mansion

The Old Governor's Mansion is a fascinating and gorgeous historic site with free admission. It offers a glimpse into Louisiana's past governance, filled with interesting history and memorabilia. The furnishings are true to the periods the mansion was in use. Every room is different, colourful, and full of character, reflecting the various inhabitants over the years. The architecture features interesting spaces like curved walls and makes beautiful use of light. A large second-floor room with white furniture and red tiles is particularly stunning, and the bathrooms are really something else. Visitors can take a free audio tour that takes up to 30 minutes. The staff is super friendly and awesome, and personal tours are sometimes available. The house reflects the very charismatic and larger-than-life personality of a former governor. It is a really amazing free point of interest, worth a visit if in town. Parking is simple with a large nearby lot. The gift shop is located at the nearby Old Louisiana State Capitol.
