The Brass Monkey is an adorable and unique little store in New Orleans' French Quarter, specializing in a fantastic and amazing collection of Limoges boxes. These are small, hand-painted porcelain boxes shipped from Italy, with hundreds if not thousands of unique pieces on offer. The selection includes everything imaginable, from cats, dogs, and vegetables to lighthouses, chairs, cakes, and hot air balloons. The store is a lovely place to visit, whether you are a collector or simply curious, and you could easily spend hours admiring the intricate craftsmanship of each piece. The woman working there, who is possibly the manager or owner, is consistently described as incredibly friendly, welcoming, kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. She provides good information about the pieces and offers a very pleasant experience. The Limoges boxes are not inexpensive, with most ranging from around $140 to $250 due to the detailed work involved. However, the store is highly recommended as a fun and interesting stop to explore its beautiful and weird collection, making it a lovely experience for visitors and vacationers alike.
I so enjoyed this charming shop and the owner. I bought one precious heart shaped Limoges piece, a small butterfly pitcher, a brass whistle and a compass. The only other things I bought were sweets and Mardi Gras masks!
