As a small business owner, I was quite impressed.
First when I called to initially ask some questions about goalie equipment for my son, the gentleman on the phone seemed delighted to connect and answer my questions with genuine care. You can tell he just wasn't answering because he had to.
I then made my way into the shop and was promptly greeted which gave me another positive vibe from this business. The young guy was friendly, and showed me to the gear I was looking for and I had mentioned to him I connected with a guy on the phone about goalie gear, and he politely handed me over to the gentleman who answered my questions on the phone, and began showing me around to all the various gear I was inquiring about.
The entire interaction was positive. I can tell from owning my own small business that the associate was leading with care and compassion as I had a lot of questions and he was genuine in wanting to help!
I wrapped up the transaction with the young gentleman and he introduced me to some of his colleagues, and purchased a few items. He shook my hand an asked my name and vice versa.
It just felt like home - like a real genuine positive experience all around. From the initial touch point on the phone call, to the in store experience!
I will 110% support this local small business and continue to put my money into a place like this over the big box stores.

“I walked into the store just to browse the men's clothing. There were some fantastic deals but it's kind of tough to find something in XXL. I was approached by a female employee and offered her help. She was so helpful in checking for my size. I did find a couple Henley shirts at 60% off and a pair of casual shorts with the same discount. I also noticed a sign for a further 10% off for first responders. Wow, I walked out of the very pleased for what I got for the price which was about $36. Pretty cheap for a quality product. This store is worth going to.”

The store is well laid out and overall very nice to visit. The only downside is that there isn’t much in-store discount variety compared to what you can find on their website or the outlet. Still, it’s a great shop to stop by if you’re looking for quality activewear.”
“The thing holding this MEC back from being the best outdoor store in Winnipeg is location.
Sadly, the majority of locals prefer travelling by car, and this makes getting to MEC especially difficult because of parking. There is literally one designated parking spot for customers. Technically there are two if you include the accessibility stall, but that one is usually taken by the security guard (who does not have an accessible parking permit visible). So given the extremely limited availability for close access via car, this is a big deterrent for potential customers.
I typically order online through MEC and pick up in store because it is pretty quick, and I don’t have to meet the $50 minimum for free shipping. Sometimes the item I want will not be at this store so it will get shipped there, but I still don’t pay for postage. Picking up is easy and the staff allow me to bring my bike inside. They do have a bike rack directly inside the doors, but I would never leave a bike downtown unattended, locked or unlocked.
The staff is always polite and helpful, anyone who says otherwise is just looking for something to complain about.
My only complaint is the location, as no matter what you use to travel, it will always be a challenge to get there. This isn’t necessarily a fault of MEC, more so city planning, however I would love to see them in a more accessible area.
Overall, this is a great Canadian owned store, with excellent customer satisfaction policies.”
