“I love this African bookstore. I took a healer there and she admitted that it’s very active in there. It always smells so good, the African fabric is very good quality. It’s so easy to get lost in this tiny store especially if you don’t know what you came for. Books, posters, tarot cards and BLACK KIDS BOOKS upstairs along with a friendly black cat that just wants some loving. And all of the essentials, jewelry, spell candles, incense, sage, crystals, soap, butter, African hair products, singing bowls and ritual equipment. Trust me you want to go to this store.”

“Was in town for work, popped in for a book signing! The shop workers were super sweet and helpful. The author was wonderful. Quait, cute place with great options. I bought the Authors book, a professional book, a historical author classic and had wine and cheesecake. Loved every minute of my visit!”

“We got the falafel wrap, mac & cheese, spanakopita, egg mcbluffin, and they were all fantastic! While we were waiting, we took a look at their book shop & zine rack, finding some pretty stellar reads for our trip back home. The folks running the place were all kind, knowledgeable, and really seemed like a crew that care about the community with all of their hearts. We'll definitely be back next time that we're in Baltimore ???”
“I don’t go to bookstores often (my tax dollars support the local library), but every time I’ve gone to Long Gate’s B&N I’ve been pleased. The absence of ramps and heaviness of the doors don’t bother me now that my kids are out of strollers and in college, and I like browsing so I can add books to my TBR list! I used to meet there in the late evenings with my co-leader to plan events for our moms group, and it was an excellent atmosphere—quieter than most libraries! I’m meeting my neighbor there tomorrow night and anticipate another great time. I’m not bothered by what Starbucks does or doesn’t accept; it’s a bookstore, and I’m looking at books. I don’t go to a bookstore for coffee and pastries (or in my case, chai and a croissant sandwich). But as a member, I do get a discount on Starbucks purchases as well as free shipping (so I wouldn’t need to go to the store at all, but what fun would that be?).”

“Really nice bookstore for believers of Jesus Christ. Has a lot of books, trinkets, jewelry, keychains, Bibles, and so much more to help those on their believer journey or show love to a fellow follower of God. Staff is always nice and helpful if you have a question about an item in stock. Always leave with something I can use to better my spiritual growth. Highly recommended for all believers.”

“The mission: "To put unwanted books into the hands of those who want them." I adore The Book Thing. I have been a loyal monthly patron and will continue to do so. The books are absolutely free, no strings attached, FREE! And to top it off, you can take as much as you can carry out. I love exploring different genres and with my vast interests, purchasing books can be expensive not to mention terrible for the environment. I will always search the shelves at The Book Thing or go to a secondhand bookstore before purchasing newly printed books (if you can't get to The Book Thing take a look at ThriftBooks.com). The Book Thing is NOT OPEN DAILY. It is a monthly event that typically falls on the second full weekend of the month, and it alternates between Saturday and Sunday. They announce the exact dates on their website and Facebook page. If you are interested in donating books, please take the time to check their website for the exact days that you can drop off. Book donation hours are 9am-2pm on the designated days. The donation limit is 6 boxes per family. Boxes must be small enough that one person can lift them when full. They accept all types of books except encyclopedia sets. All donations are tax-deductible. We can provide a donation receipt on request reflecting the number of books donated. We also issue receipts for financial donations. Please do not leave books or boxes outside of their donation hours, you may be cited by the City for illegal dumping!”
“I did not realize it was a book a million when I was there. Sign reading bam. Went in there yesterday to look around and found something I wanted right away. While looking I could hear a customer at the register being a bit loud, which caught my attention, and I was waiting to get my item rung up. Listening from my perspective the customer was being quite rude to the employee, and I observed the cashier maintain a calm, professional demeanor the entire time. Doing all they could to help the customer. The nastier the customer seemed to be, the nicer and more friendly the cashier became. I was so surprised I wanted to give the store top notch feed back”

“I've been coming to the Book Nook for years and was so excited to see how much they've grown after being out of state for 4 years. Hands down the best place for kid's books, but even with all other genres they have a large selection and all fairly priced. They even have a foreign language section that has all kinds of languages in it and range from kid's books to actual textbooks I've used in formal language classes.And you can't say enough about the staff. They're all so sweet and welcoming. I tell everyone I know about the Book Nook!”
“What's not to love about a comic book store that has a bar in the back. It's a divy hipster bar in Hampden. The crowd is a little order and it's cheap drinks and beers with usually a live show. The staff is friendly. I've heard John Waters (creator of Hair Spray) does signings here on occasion! It's a fun spot. They do have regular fiction books as well!”
“Coffee House doubles as a book store. Bookish environment inside, nice patio outside. Breakfast and lunch options for pretty much anyone who walks in the door. Standard coffee house offering. Wife gave the chai latte a thumbs up. If you like your coffee as dark roasted as possible (like I do) you won’t find that here but their medium blend was fresh and has a flavor complexity you won’t find at National coffeehouse chains. Friendly staff. Well kept up dining area. Right behind the Study at John Hopkins.”
“My first visit to this store with my grandkids and what a nice experience. Store was extremely clean and stocked full of books. Checkout was easy and the Starbucks store is a plus. I would highly recommend this Barnes & Noble store.”

This barnes and nobles store is designed mostly to sell johns hopkins merch like hoodies, hat, lanyard, balnket, etc. Those merches are great! I like them.
It is a two story building. The lower floor carries mostly the merch and the upper floor has textbooks and some books.
It also has starbucks inside. Nice study area.
Mostly quiet enough to do some homework. Clean and organized.
I recommend this place if you are visiting Johns Hopkins homewood neighborhood or trying to purchase johns hopkins merch.
You can get a discount if you have barnes and nobles membership card.
Price ranges a lot. Hoodies are around 50 bucks. I got knitted sweater for like 80 bucks. I can't buy all of it but some are not too terrible in terms of pricing.”
“Called ahead to ask of she had the book I wanted. She confirmed she did and had it waiting for me when I walked in a few minutes later. It was labeled a used book, but I don't think it had ever been opened. So it was cheap, as well. Great experience.”

“What an absolute and true but somewhat hidden gem in Baltimore. It truly warmed my heart to see such a wonderful used bookstore still up and running. It has truly been a disheartening experience to watch so many independent book stores(ESPECIALLY used bookstores) close down over my adult life. We are living in a time where education and being educated is imperatIve and dealing with a massive banning of books and factual information on the internet. So supporting local and independent book stores as well as public libraries is imperative.
I moved to the neighborhood and was very pleasantly surprised by Station North Books. I was walking my dog but curious as I know the hours are specific. I popped my head in to ask about the hours only to find out it’s VERY pet friendly. Also, they have a cat and I’m a sucker for a bookstore with a cat ?.
The selection is both extensive AND eccentric, two of my favorite things. It’s truly a neighborhood gem”

“BAM is a spacious area with a variety of items from pop figures, to books and manga along with other various items. Not too long ago I actually bought a pop figure which is going for much more than I originally bought it for. I really enjoyed this place and the workers are very kind, but don't forget to bring a bag because sometimes they run out (at least that was the case when I went).”
