Pet Grooming

Miss Gail's Wags & Kisses
13142 Old National Pike, Mt AiryI took my Maltese mix after I had neglected to get her groomed for over six months. Maddie was a nightmare of hair and mats but I did try to cut out the majority of the mats. I usually have her groomed every six weeks but I had radiation in August and was extremely sick until March this year. Gail shaved her and made her look so cute. I am totally in love with Gail and her amazing kindness to fix the mess I made of my sweet baby.

Pet Care

Country Veterinary Hospital
17591 Frederick Rd, Mt AiryI was able to make an afterwork appointment. Dr. King and the vet techs did a good job examining and treating my dog. The fee was reasonable for the service provided. I will continue to use the Country Veterinarian Hospital and have referred friends there as well.

Pet Sitting & Training

Mariah-Belle Manor Kennel
6628 Runkles Rd, Mt AiryOur dog, now 9 years old, has been boarded at Mariah Belle since he was a puppy, and he is always excited to go back for another visit. This week, a couple of days into a 9-day stay, staff members noticed a potential medical issue and contacted us to see how we’d like to proceed. The owner, Rachann, went above and beyond, personally taking our dog to his usual vet, making necessary decisions in our absence, and acquiring and administering prescribed medications as a result. We are so grateful for the concern and care Mariah Belle showed for our boy!

The Dog House
1251 Shaffersville Rd, Mt AiryFive stars all around. Our recently adopted rescue dog can be challenging due to anxiety and reactivity, but Scarlett was exceptionally attentive and flexible, adjusting her approach to ensure he felt as safe and comfortable as possible. Her care and responsiveness made a huge difference for our dog. We wil absolutely trust The Dog House again.

Dreamy Skies Dog Training
26330 Mullinix Mill Rd, Mt AiryWe are very fortunate to have found Karen and Dreamy Skies. Maizy (our dog of many years) and Violet (our new dog) were having trouble getting along. Maizy seemed outright mean toward Violet, and Violet could be very irritating. We were afraid we might not be able to keep them both. But Karen solved that problem and taught us much, much more.
Karen really connects emotionally with the dogs. She has quite a curriculum that she gives to the owners over an extended period. It is a lot of homework, but if you do it, you and your dogs will be much happier. Karen is fabulous and runs a great business.
Five stars without reservation!

The Country Kennel Inc.
5718 Ridge Rd, Mt AiryWe have been taking our GSD to Dr K for some years and have always been very happy with the care provided. Sadly our most recent visit was to euthanize him. They are very very kind and caring and lovingly put him down. When we eventually recover from our loss and get another dog we will definitely bring them to Country Kennel. We strongly recommend this veterinarian to everyone.

VonDanSuGermanShepherds
13739 Jacobs Rd, Mt AiryWe got our 9 week old German Shepherd from VonDanSu Shepherds in October 2022 and our experience was excellent. The owners were very professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Since getting our pup, we’ve reached out to the owner, Susan, several times with questions and she’s been very patient and willing to help. Just this week I randomly reached out to her asking for some training advice for our now 1.5 year old shepherd (we hadn't spoken in over a year) and she was quick to respond and offer a phone call. Our shepherd is extremely intelligent, sweet, cuddly, playful….and energetic. Like every dog, she has her quirks that we’re working through (especially as first time GSD owners) but overall, we’re very pleased with her personality as well as the transparency of the breeders. My husband and I have nothing negative to say about these breeders and fully recommend them to anyone looking for a GSD. One of our friends actually wound up getting one of the pups from the same litter as ours and has also had a positive experience.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Liquidity Aleworks
8 N Main St, Mt AiryAbsolutely awesome. Great vibe. Maybe 20 beers on tap at any time. I'm now enjoying Leverage, a wheat beer with tangerine. Perfect for summer. Owner is great. The place welcomes kids and dogs (not a plus for me but the beer is worth it...) Located in an old bank building in downtown Mt Airy. Good food truck.

Loew Vineyards
14001 Liberty Rd, Mt AiryWe came here on a Sunday in May because I saw in Facebook events that there would be live music.
We each had a glass of red wine and sat outside to drink it in the sunshine. The wine was good.
They had a pretty good crowd. Tables are spread throughout the lawn. There are a couple tables inside but it’s a tight squeeze when folks are in there ordering. They offer guided tastings but we wanted to sit outside and enjoy the music so we didn’t do that.
The atmosphere was casual and relaxing. The only thing I would note, and it’s no fault of the winery, but we moved to different tables twice because there were kids playing football and baseball. I didn’t want to have to sit and dodge fly balls the whole time. I’m all for family friendly, but I don’t think the balls are a good idea around other people and parked cars. It’s not a playground and I think parents need to be mindful of other patrons. The tables had umbrellas on them and I I saw one popup tent. I did see one man get a beach umbrella out of his car and scree it into the grass like he was at the beach. I don’t know if that’s actually encouraged.
They are dog-friendly as well. All dogs I see were leashed.
They had a small snack menu - think chocolate bars, crackers, cheese, that kind of thing.
Prices were similar to other wineries. The location was easy to find. Parking was somewhat crowded. It wasn’t clear exactly where to park if the actual parking spots were filled.
I didn’t get any video of the musician but she was good and it created a nice atmosphere.
Overall it was a nice time.

Red Shedman Farm Brewery and Hop Yard
13601 Glissans Mill Rd, Mt AiryI only get their ciders as I don't drink beer. Most recent visit, after being introduced to some ciders at an annual MD Cider Festival (they were one of the vendors), I found my way here - well, I was in the area for something else and decided to visit them. Two reasons: (1) Someone I met at the festival said I needed to try their Apple Pie Iced Cream cider. (2) I overheard one of the reps (at the festival) say their popular cider was Raspberry which they didn't have there. So, I knew I had to stop by I was able to taste a few of their ciders on tap and it helped me in making my decisions on which to get (not to drink there but getting them to-go). Not all were on tap, but that was okay. Here is what I got (to-go): Raspberry Creamsicle Orange Cream Apple Pie Iced Cream I enjoyed all three ciders despite them being canned and I'm looking forward to trying others. I tried the Pumpkin Pie Cider (not canned) last year - that is one of my favorites so far. Visited September 2024
