First Independence Bank opened its doors on May 11, 1970. We have served the banking needs of the Detroit Metropolitan area for over 50 years and remain one of two banks headquartered in the City of Detroit, as well as the only African American‐owned bank headquartered in the State of Michigan.

    Black Owned and Awesome!! You can start a checking account with only $50! And you balance can be $5 with out any fees!! When, I heard this I Ran ?‍♀️ there and opened up an account! ? Most banks want a Whole Lot more and you have to have a Larger balance!

    Black owned bank in a city with 89% black population. They are courteous and the service is quick.
