“This review is a little late, but better than never. My wife and I visited Gates Lodge back in June. The owners were awesome and very accommodating. We got the last room they had available and stayed in the brown trout suite. It was old school and very charming. You could feel all the fishing history in every part of the lodge. The day we got in the place was buzzing with patrons at the restaurant and clients coming in and out of the shop. Katy took the time to get my very pregnant wife outfitted with some comfortable waders and Josh pointed me toward wadable spots with a handful of flies (that worked!). The restaurant it’s pretty incredible and the service there definitely trickles down from the top. Everyone was super attentive, and the food was great. Honestly, some of the best food we had on our entire vacation up north. The lemon meringue torte is top five desserts I’ve ever had. Since then, the wife gave birth to our beautiful healthy girl. Can’t wait to take her back up there to catch some wild browns! Thanks Josh and Katy!”

“I would give this BNB 10 stars if I could. I had flight delays and was constantly messaging the host about check-in, and the host's responses were considerate and top notch. I also asked multiple questions both before and during my stay. Her replies were swift and thorough (I even messaged late at night). The house itself was a treasure trove of history and comfort. The bathrobes, coffee bar, grand piano, special soap, etc... as well as the decor, made this a 10-star experience.”

“We stayed here recently while on a bicycle trip. The motel is fine overall, but the water in the showers was only lukewarm for all of us, which seemed strange for a motel of this size. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast area was adequate, with plenty of space for eating. There were no restaurants within easy walking distance open for dinner on the Monday we stayed. Overall, this is an OK place to stay, not far from the North Central State Trail.”

“Overall I gave them 4 stars because of the children’s play area, the shuffle board and the kiddie and main pools and the cute dining cabin. Interior rooms, first floor, walk out into the “dome” with all the pools and play structure. It was clean. For our purposes, we wanted a place an hour outside Traverse City to be on time for a morning event so we stopped here. There was a basic breakfast included. The sign out front was red and broken so they need a sign. Apparently it is being remodeled. A lot looked new—play structure, pool, and dining cabin. I felt comfortable here.”
