“My family and I had the best time and stay at Hotel Iroquois. The overall experience was friendly, comforting, and breathtaking. The hotel is in a great location and the views are outstanding. My kids enjoyed being right by the water and skipping rocks. The staff was so friendly and informative. The baggage carrier from the ferry straight to our rooms was so easy. The food at the Carriage House was so delicious along with the friendly staff and views made the whole stay so enjoyable. We recommend Hotel Iroquois and would love to return again in the near future.”

“Chippewa Hotel is a win, win, win. Good service, wonderful large suites and a spectacular location.

The suites aren't cheap, but they are the price of ordinary rooms in some Mackinac Island locations. They are enormous and comfortable and are laid out so they are quiet even though you are in the heart of things. The balconies are right on the water and you will want to spend time enjoying them.

Being in the heart of things is important on Mackinac Island, where no cars are permitted and you will be doing a lot of walking.

Book as early as you can, or you may find the suites are unavailable.”

“Bicycle Inn and Suites was great place to stay on Mackinac Island. The location is perfect and they have a locked indoor room in the basement to store your bicycle!”

“I cannot put into words how fantastic harbor view inn is. It was our first time staying on the island.

We chose a ‘harbor view room’. Not only was it meticulously clean, it was beautiful as well.

They do not skimp on even the smallest detail. The towels, the complimentary soaps, the staff, breakfast & all; was far beyond what i expected and similar to a very high end luxury hotel, at a great price point.

They had extra umbrellas by the door for a rainy day that we were able to borrow, accommodated us with a pack n play for my 1 year old to sleep in.

They do not over look any detail at Harbor view inn. Hospitality feels like a lost art these days, but not with this place. If you’re on the fence or looking for a affordable on island option, look no further, you will not be disappointed.”

“Mission Point Resort was everything and more…the concierge Pat was a wealth of knowledge and so delightful. From the taxi driver to the bellhop to the restaurant servers…we had a wonderful stay.”

“We went to the Woods restaurant right next to the Hotel !! It is wonderfully situated in a beautiful setting ! I have been to mackinaw Island so many times but never saw this hidden gem in the woods! The restaurant is a treasure in decor and the food was extraordinary!! It look like a “ great Hall” in a movie!! Two huge fireplaces - very high ceilings and chandeliers made from Elk antlers!! It was a magical experience to enjoy this venue!!”

“My husband and I and our 20 month old twins stayed at the Murray this past weekend. We had a great time! We loved that it was right in the middle of Main Street so we could easily pop back to the room for our girls to nap. When we initially arrived in our room we attempted to turn on the TV and realized the remote was not working. We had staff in our room within 5 minutes trying to fix it. The problem ended up being bigger than just a remote and after 4 people, a new TV and a new remote, the issue was solved. They were not going to give up and went above and beyond to make sure it was functioning, knowing we would need it for our girls later. No complaints! We had a blast and loved our time at the Murray.”

“We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel, and there is no question that it is a beautiful and unique property. The staff throughout the hotel was genuinely friendly and welcoming. We especially enjoyed our meals, and Garcia, Ann-Marie and Kamar took wonderful care of us. They were all a memorable part of our stay and deserve special recognition.

The one thing I wish I had understood better before staying here is that the Grand Hotel isn’t just a hotel — it is also a tourist attraction. I’m not saying that as a criticism of the hotel’s policies, but rather as something I think other travelers should know when deciding whether it is the right kind of vacation for them.

If you’re accustomed to staying at hotels where you can come back from sightseeing, escape the crowds, and relax, the experience here is very different. Large numbers of people who aren’t staying at the hotel come through the property during the day to see it, and the common areas can be busy and hectic. After a while, you almost feel like you’re part of the tourist attraction yourself. You’re staying in the place everyone has come to see, and there really isn’t anywhere inside the hotel where you can escape from that and simply enjoy some peace and quiet.

That also creates an unusual experience when entering the hotel and moving around the property. Because so many visitors are coming through, access is understandably controlled, and we were frequently asked whether we were hotel guests as we entered different areas. It makes sense given how the property operates, but it is a very different feeling from arriving at a hotel, walking in, and immediately feeling like you’ve entered your own quiet retreat.

The pool area was really the one place on the property where we felt we could get away from the sightseeing crowds and completely relax. We enjoyed having that escape, although there is very little shade around the pool other than near the bar area. If you’re someone who likes to find a shady spot and spend a quiet afternoon relaxing by the pool, that is worth knowing as well.

None of this is meant to suggest that the Grand Hotel should change what it is. The hotel is an attraction in its own right, and clearly many people enjoy experiencing it that way. I simply think it’s important to understand the difference before staying here.

For us, a relaxing vacation usually means being able to return to our hotel, leave the crowds behind, find a quiet place, and settle in. At the Grand Hotel, you’re staying in the attraction itself, so you never entirely get to leave that activity behind.

We’re glad we experienced the Grand Hotel, enjoyed our meals, and were treated very well by the staff. But if peace, privacy, and being able to escape the crowds are an important part of how you relax on vacation, it’s worth knowing that the Grand Hotel offers a very different kind of experience.”
