“I had a silver rope chain that needed a replacement lobster claw clasp. I happened to be in Newport Mall in downtown Jersey City so stopped by the Kay Jewelers situated there. I explained to the clerk that I had a silver chain in need of a lobster style clasp and asked for an estimate for buying and attaching the clasp. She responded “$400 to $600”. I had to smile at that ridiculous figure and shared that a reputable jeweler in Bloomfield NJ (Carlos Jewelers?) had just given me an estimate the day prior of $40 if the clasp didn’t need welding and $60 if it did. Her response was that she didn’t set the store rates. Nevertheless, I high tailed it over to Rama Jewelers in Lyndhurst and the owner, Mr. Patel, charged me $20 for the clasp and attached it all in about 5-10 minutes. That’s right - $20.00!!! If you need jewelry or simple repairs, RUN, do not walk to Rama Jewelers. I am ecstatic with the work done and will never set foot in a Kay Jewelers store again.”
