Paws on 34
393 NJ-34, MatawanMe and my fur daughter love coming here. The staff is always warm and welcoming. My baby always gets nervous when we get her nails cut but she never minds going here. They have nice natural treats for pups that are reasonably priced. My girl loves the pig ears. Bella approves this place for service and treats. They even took a photo of her and posted it on the wall. ?? If you want your baby in good hands give this place a try you won’t regret it.

Pet Grooming

K9 Konnection Pet Spa
31 Washington St, MatawanI can't say enough about the quality grooming my dogs get here. I've got a psycho dog that bites everyone, even me sometimes. He's a little guy from the shelter with issues but Dee has a way. She says, "he can't help it" as she takes him in her arms. He returns happy and handsome. She has a secret spray that smells so nice! I've been going here for years even with my matted cat one time that decided no personal grooming. Dee knew what to do, I'm so grateful for her.

Pet Care

Matawan Animal Hospital
3991 County Rd 516, MatawanThis practice is just wonderful. Our pup Charlie had sudden swelling on his snout & my husband rushed him to this particular vet due to proximity to our home. I am so thankful he did! We moved a few months ago, so we did not officially switch to a closer vet & they took Charlie first thing, without him being an established patient.
They got to the root of the issue immediately & diagnosed him, later treating Charlie via tooth removal surgery 2 weeks later after treating his infection. Just to note- Charlie is also extremely anxious & they treated him with such special care. They even followed up with my husband the day after Charlie’s surgery to check on our little guy. We officially switched to this vet & are so glad!
Dr. Elaina Petrone - you are an angel! ♥️

Although I have a snippy dog, the staff handled him with gentleness and kindness. I was recommended this Vet came recommended by a dear friend. Needless to say she was right about how friendly the staff is.

Pet Sitting & Training

Parkwood Kennels
295 Gordon Rd, MatawanCan’t recommend this place enough! I was so worried to board my dog for two nights, yet he did amazing thanks to Patti and Jen, the wonderful owners of Parkwood Kennels. What’s also great about them is that each dog has its own, separate indoor and outdoor run. My dog remained happy and tail wagging his entire stay and was so well taken care of. Thank you so much!

Husky House
391 NJ-34, MatawanLouraine’s love and dedication for these dogs compares to no other. She insures each dog is taken care of by the best vets, kennel techs, and volunteers 24/7. Husky House goes through a very thorough adoption process that I admire. This is to ensure the best outcome for the adoptable dog to finding their forever home. I will never understand why there are negative reviews. Be mad at the irresponsible owner who put their dog in this situation to begin with! Louraine is the one that steps up every time and is the biggest loudest voice for these dogs! Instead of bad mouthing Husky House or any rescue for that matter, be mad at the backyard breeders, puppy stores, puppy mills, and abusers! Stop being mad because they didn’t think you were the right fit! Maybe instead of taking the time to write a negative comment, take the time and volunteer! Witness a portion of what it’s like not everything is all joy and playing with puppies! Then maybe you will see why Husky House cares so much!!! And most of all why I LOVE THEM ❤️

Prep Coffee
3996 County Rd 516, MatawanI’ve been going to Prep Coffee for a few years now and I really love it! They have fun drink options and there are plenty to choose from. Whether that be new seasonal drinks, or just unique options I can’t find at other cafes. My current favorite is the Zesty Orange Latte. I do miss their Girl Scout inspired Lemonade Latte and their Winter Special Chocolate Marshmallow Latte — hopefully I see those back on their menu soon! The flavors of the drinks are really distinct as well because they say their syrups are homemade. They have a wide pastry display that always smells so good. My go to are their cookies warmed up; you can tell they’re freshly baked! As far as food, there are also many options. I usually stick to the Cali Burrito (made spicy), and I highly recommend trying that one when you visit. Overall, I love this place: great food and drinks, friendly baristas, clean, and a cozy ambience that I don’t mind spending hours in!

Pauline's Italian Cuisine
765 NJ-34, MatawanLove the food...all the food. Amazing appetizers, mains and desserts. Baked clams and shrimp scampi apps blow my mind. Lobster with Angel Hair in Pink sauce and the Osso Buco are mouth watering and delicious. Pistachio cake and Tiramisu are absolute fire. There is so much more on the menu that blows us away every time. Great people - family owned and operated. Chef Rocco is among the best chefs in the Tri-State and beyond. You have to go to Pauline's. If you don't, you are missing out on the very best!!!

Stewart's Root beer Of Matawan
347 Main St, MatawanHad a great time at Stewart's Root Beer after our baseball game with a big group of players and families. The service was excellent — the staff was friendly, patient, and handled our large group really well. The food was fresh and hit the spot after a long game, and of course the root beer floats was a favorite with the kids. The only disappointment was finding out there were no pierogies, but everything else made up for it. Overall, a great spot to grab food after a game and we’ll definitely be back!

Big Ed's Barbecue
305 NJ-34, MatawanIt's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but once your inside you feel transported to a Western saloon of barbecue. The BBQ is very good and the prices are reasonable. I would highly recommend that you not wear your finest shirt.

The Burger Shop
231 Main St, MatawanWhat a fun little burger joint! The staff are super polite and friendly, the restaurant has a fun old fashioned diner feel and is decorated with a life-sized Marilyn Monroe and Elvis, and there are a couple arcade games as well. I got the Swiss mushroom burger and waffle fries and they were delicious! Once you order just have a seat and they'll bring it to your table. The burger was nice and hot and delicious! The mushrooms are fresh...not canned, and they waffle fries are well seasoned and crispy. Overall super solid, if you're in the area you should definitely pop in.

West Lake
1016 NJ-34, MatawanTDLR: Begars can't be choosers. I think this is the only chinese restaurant in the area, so good enough is...... good enough. Chicken and Corn soup: Warm, and it hits the middle point of clean and hearty. I was scared that it was gonna be tasteless, but I got enough chicken and corn to not feel that way. Pork Chop: This is another Chinese restaurant staple. 85% of the chinese porkchops that you eat will taste the same. This one is no different. Tofu with Salted Fish: It was fine. The tofu did a good job defusing the saltiness of the fish, and the dish was generally well balanced. Objectively, this is probably one of their better dishes. I just feel that it didn't have the pop that I was looking for. Hot prawn salad with broccoli: The broccoli was just boiled. Nothing to talk about. The pawn was fried and bathed in mayonnaise. What's not to like? Yang Chow Fried Rice: A Chinese restaurant staple. 90% of the Yang Chow Fried Rice that you will eat will taste the same. This one stayed with the majority. Service; It was fine. The place wasn't busy, so getting what we needed wasn't hard. Ambiance: This place was built to support multiple small to medium families, and maybe one to two tables that can support 8-10 people. It's in a quiet area, so the crowd wasn't too crazy.
