“Moving our entire household from the San Francisco Bay Area to Portugal's Silver Coast was one of the biggest and most stressful projects we've ever undertaken. Like most people, we started by searching online for international moving companies. Unfortunately, we found the same handful of large companies, all claiming to be experts in shipping to Portugal. The information they provided was inconsistent, their quotes were shockingly expensive, and many conversations felt more like high-pressure sales pitches than genuine customer service. After extensive research, we actually found ourselves knowing more about Portugal's import regulations than many of the companies advertising themselves as specialists.
Everything changed when we found Portugalia Sales Inc. in New Jersey.
Although their website initially appears to focus on Portuguese appliances and specialty products, we soon discovered they also specialize in international shipping and household relocations to Portugal. After reading numerous positive reviews, we contacted them and spoke with Carlos Fonseca.
From our very first conversation, we knew we had found the right company.
Carlos never pressured us or tried to upsell unnecessary services. Instead, he patiently explained the entire relocation process and even suggested alternatives that would save us thousands of dollars. His recommendation to use PODS to transport our belongings from California to Portugalia's warehouse in New Jersey before transferring everything into an overseas shipping container was brilliant. It was an option we never would have discovered on our own.
Even more impressive, Portugalia handled all three of our required Certificados de Bagagem through the Portuguese Consulate in San Francisco quickly, accurately, and without adding stress to an already overwhelming move. Their pricing—from receiving our PODS in New Jersey all the way through customs, shipping, delivery, and unloading at our home in Portugal—was remarkably fair and significantly less expensive than the traditional international moving companies we had contacted.
What truly makes Portugalia Sales Inc. exceptional, however, is their people.
Carlos, Beatrice, Fernando, Alexandra, and the entire team communicated with us every step of the way. Every question was answered promptly, every concern was addressed with patience, and every detail was handled professionally. Most importantly, they genuinely understand Portugal—its regulations, customs procedures, documentation requirements, logistics, and even its famously complex bureaucracy. Their knowledge and experience gave us confidence throughout the entire process.
Today, we are happily settled into our new home in Portugal, and we sincerely credit Portugalia Sales Inc. for making that possible.
