Tacowala
133 E Main St, SomervilleTacowala is a favorite of mine for lunch or dinner! My go-to is the black magic quesadilla, but I haven’t had something I didn’t like. The flavors are all familiar but interesting and truly a fusion.
I recently went to a supper club they hosted and was impressed by every dish! You can tell the owner is passionate about food and flavor from how he described each item presented on the menu. I added some pictures from the supper club here.
I highly recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner and trying the black magic quesadillas and the different guacamole and esquites!

The service was excellent, the food phenomenal and the dining room so inviting. The salads were perfect, I loved the choices, same for the entrees, I could eat their bolognese sauce every day! The cannolis are not to be missed. Thank you so much Robert and Lisa. Sandy

Kyma Greek Cuisine
24 E Main St, SomervilleI visited this restaurant on a Friday evening and there were only a couple of people at the restaurant. I am not sure what I expected going into this restaurant. I have little to no knowledge on Greek culture, so I was coming into this ready to learn. Once I was finished eating there were so many more people at the restaurant. It was a completely different atmosphere than when I first got there. I learned that dinner in Greece (and Europe) usually is around a later time than here in the United States. As soon as I went inside the restaurant I immediately noticed the difference between an American restaurant and this one. The restaurant had such a beautifully curated decor. There were perfectly placed lighting throughout the restaurant. Halfway through my dinner, they dimmed the lights at the restaurant. The restaurant name Kyma, is Greek for "Wave". The connection to the seafood that they provided. I saw the concept of the restaurant as a modern presentation of Greek food and some of its culinary roots. The hospitality I received was amazing. Everyone was so polite there and the service was impeccable. I was prompted to come to this place because someone I know recommended it to me last month. I am not the type of person to go out and eat, especially somewhere I am not familiar with. With this project, I thought that this was the perfect opportunity to try this location out. I felt welcomed here at this restaurant. I also got some warm pita bread. This is apparently essential in Greek cuisine. I was also served rice and salad. One thing that stood out from this experience was that the waiter constantly came back to reserve my water. This reveals a lot about the culture and the deep commitment to hospitality. In my previous dining experience, something like this is usually an afterthought. This was a very eye opening experience for me. I enjoyed the food but the knowledge I acquired during my time here is astonishing. After I was done with the meal, the waiter offered me coffee. I learned that it is typical in Greek culture to end dinner off with a coffee rather than a dessert (although that was offered to me as well). In Greek culture, it is normal for people to sit and talk for hours during and after a meal. A dinner is so much more than what it is here, it is a social gathering, which is why they offer coffee at the end. At this restaurant, there was no pressure to leave and go home. I really felt like I was a part of the cultural vibe at this restaurant. As for the material aspects of the settings, when I walked inside I noticed the grey tone colors all over the place. The paint of the walls looked nice and fresh. The restaurant itself was a nice presentation for those who walked in. They had a nice interior decor. The main colors that were present were blue and gray. The maintenance of the place was very well kept, this was no ordinary fast food restaurant. The lighting creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a celebratory evening. There were branches on the wall, all painted gray. I mentioned earlier that halfway through my dinner, the restaurant dimmed the lights. Although most people did not notice (perhaps they have been here before) I immediately noticed when it happened. It was a true fine dining experience. On some of the walls, there were some abstract paintings with no known meaning behind them. The tables here were square and rectangle wooden, with no visible marks or damage on them. The chairs of the restaurant were painted white with a high back for comfortable seating. The table setting was white cloth napkins, polished silverware, clear stemmed glassware. Tables were pre-set in a minimal yet elegant style. That seemed to be the theme of the restaurant. Although I did not visit this corner of the restaurant, there was a bar area for all the customers. Also, many customers arrive with their own bottles of wine. I simply ordered some lemon water as my beverage of choice. The bar featured glass shelving showcasing spirits and wine, with strategic lighting to highlight the bottles. I no

Prima Pizza Kitchen
131 N Gaston Ave, Somerville9/16/25 - We pre-gamed tonight at Prima Pizza Kitchen in Somerville, NJ. I've had mixed experiences at the pizzerias of that area so my expectations were pretty low. But tonight I was pleasantly surprised. \n\nPrima Pizza Kitchen definitely specializes in thin crust pizzas. There's not a great selection in the slice case up front, but I was able to spot a sausage slice to go with my plain slice for testing purposes. \n\nThe plain slice had a super delicious sauce. Whoever made the sauce has a heavy hand when it comes to the Italian spices especially the oregano. And I certainly have no complaints about that. The cheese is a wonderful premium mozzarella and has great flavor. I loved the thin, crispy and crunchy crust. The knock on this one is it's a bit limp. The toppings don't slide off but you definitely have to get underneath it to take a bite.\n\nThe sausage slice has all those same delicious attributes but the slices of premium sausage add wonderful flavor. Again, this slice is a bit limp but like its plain cousin, there's no toppings sliding off. Most importantly, both slices are top-ranked when it comes to flavor.\n\nGarlic knots were just what you'd want. Slightly crispy on the outside. And chewy, moist and doughy on the inside. Each had a wonderful garlic flavor inside and out--- and with each bite.\n\nThe front counter guy wasn't the warmest fellow I ever encountered but he was efficient and served the slices and the garlic knots quickly. And all the food was served hot.\n\nOverall Rating: A-

Verve Restaurant
18 E Main St, SomervilleWhen I saw the prices, I had my doubts, but this was the absolute best meal I've had in a while. We got there early and started off with a drink at the bar. Friendly, knowledgeable bartenders and delicious drinks. Then continued into the cozy dining room. Prompt and friendly service, topped off with a clear knowledge of what on the menu could be gluten free (which was almost everything). My husband said the bread with oil that comes before the meal is the best he has ever had. Only down side is that the only restroom is down a pretty decent flight of stairs so unfortunately this would not be a good choice if anyone in your party can't do stairs. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and we would absolutely come back for our next special occasion.

Phoenix Café
24 W Main St, SomervilleAffordable & Yummy: I’ve been here twice for lunch and once for breakfast. Very happy with all three meals. My special tip: try one of their Costa Rican dishes. Amy and I had seafood soup lunch; my favorite so far here. Really excellent. My wife liked it as well, large portion we had to bring some of it home. The seafood tasted fresh and the spicing was memorable. Excellent broth. ($17) I also had a breakfast. Sort of an American scrambled eggs, kind of breakfast and it was good ($7:50). Potatoes were outstanding. Yummy freash coffee. My second lunch was the Costa Rican style tacos, which were very good. First time I’ve had that. I had took a photo which I’ll put on the review. Came with french fries which were nicely done. ($12:50) Service all three times so it was excellent. Restrooms clean. The inside has a old-time diner look to it. Cleary was probably diner for a long time. They still maintain a more American traditional diner menu in addition to the Costa Rican themed dishes. It was a nice surprise for Amy and Foundmourselves in Somerville, I as we were looking for something downtown. I sat outside for the second lunch and it was great. You’ll see you in the picture. Owners are present. I like the old time diner look. Definitely a bias of mine being a diner guy so I gave him five stars for that? (FYI: You won’t see too many bad reviews from me. I tend to only post reviews of places I like. Also, I only do reviews generally after visiting an establishment three times. I occasionally make exceptions. My first job was in the restaurant kitchen business, and everybody has a bad day.)

Village Brewing Company
34 W Main St, SomervilleThis brewery is in the neighborhood of my job so I frequent quite often for lunch. I’ve personally never had a bad meal here; the pulled pork sliders and truffle fries are so good! There is a large selection of craft beers and the cocktails are also mixed very well. Nate has been my server on quite a few occasions and his attention to his customers is fantastic and one of the reasons why I continue to come back!
