Dr. Mack has years of experience. She was able to diagnose what was wrong with my dog without expensive testing, unlike the expensive emergency vet I had visited 3 days earlier whose young veterinarian, who was nice and compassionate, couldn't diagnose without the expensive blood work, which I declined.

My husband and I went there the other night for a small comedy show on their covered outdoor patio. It was our first time there, and from the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed.

We were greeted right away by Tom, one of the owners, who was outside setting up the grill in his apron and graphic button-down shirt, looking like everybody’s favorite grandpa. We looked over the menu and asked him, like we usually do, “What’s your favorite?”

He smiled and said, “Well, you can’t go wrong with a green chile cheeseburger.” Then he leaned in a little and added, “But you gotta get it the right way — extra hot, with bacon.” That sold us immediately. We said, “We’ll take two!”

Tom sent us inside to order with his wife, Cindy, and she was just as wonderful. She greeted us with the biggest smile, joked with us, and made us feel like we had been there before. There was no awkwardness, no judgment, no weird looks — just kindness. As a gay couple walking in hand in hand, with my husband in a crop top, that kind of welcome matters. We felt completely comfortable and completely at home.

And then the food came out.

Cindy brought our burgers out to our table on the patio herself, and they looked exactly how you want a New Mexico green chile cheeseburger to look: hot, melty, messy in the best way, and clearly made with care. The cheese was pouring over the sides, the green chile smelled freshly roasted, and the burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The extra hot green chile with bacon was absolutely the right call. The fries were crisp and classic, and with a little salt, they hit the spot.

After the show and our meal, both Tom and Cindy checked in on us to ask how everything was. Cindy even hugged us and told us we were welcome back to their “home” anytime.

That part stuck with me.

The food was great, but the people made the experience special. Tom and Cindy are the kind of local business owners who remind you why small places matter. They fed us, welcomed us, made us laugh, and made us feel safe and valued.
