I had a previous mortgage that was sold to M&T Bank about a year ago. According to M&T, accounts that are not active are automatically closed, therefore, mine is closed and I cannot access the items and information I need.
I never received a 1098 form from M&T for the previous year, so I called in. I waited for most likely over 10 minutes just to hear some pretentious snake of a lady come across the line speaking to me super slow like I am special needs or something.
Seriously? Get better customer service that actually treats their previous customers with respect. Now I know who my family, I, and my future businesses will never do banking with!

The workers are nice and helpful I'm always in and out within 15 to 20 minutes I really appreciate the great work wish they were open on Sundays though

Don't get any worse than them. Everything is a no. They have no trust but a whole lot of fraud. They think your acct is they acct. Stop you from your own money. Supervisors at that branch laughing on the phone thinking it's all a joke. Everything about this place is ridiculous ?????

Do not use their national customer service line!! ONLY CALL YOUR LOCAL BRANCH. The national representatives don't know anything. I ordered a new card at my local branch after I suspected fraud on mine. The branch told me it would be expedited and arrive the next day. I then called the customer service line to check its location. The customer service representative told me that it would take 7-10 business days, and that it wasn't expedited. I then called the local branch and they told me that the national costumer service represtentative had CANCELLED my card. So now I now have to do the process all over again. I'm really upset. I'm about to go on a trip and won't have this card and this is a big headache. The local branch is great and really helpful, but I regret calling the national line.

Do NOT use M&T Bank!!! My 97 year old WWII veteran father has been a loyal customer for decades. His bank card was recently stolen and the thief took $20K!!! No M&T claims that they won't replace the $ because every transaction was considered "authorized" due to the fact that it used his debit card. M&T did NOTHING to secure his account and never shut it down when the system saw unauthorized transactions! Now my 96 yr old dad on a fixed income is out $20K! If he didn't have another account, he'd be on the streets!!! These people are the worst!!! Never use M&T Bank!

M & T bank is the ABSOLUTE best. You call a branch and they answer. The online banking is exceptional. Very smooth interface and functionality. Great customer service and overall banking. Anyone on here writing a bad review should get their head examined because they are very wrong.

Sometime in the last 2 months I opened a new account with M&T Bank (and I specify sometime as a range because they have handed me several different dates throughout this.)On the 14th of December 2022, My fiancée Christina Venegas sent me $28 through zelle so we could attempt to use my new account to pay a bill. When I attempted to pay the bill I began getting error notices. I attempted to charge the card elsewhere and continued to get error notices. It was then I attempted to Zelle the money back to my fiancée's account and was told I could not do that.Immediately, I began attempting to contact the bank about the issue. One agent said my card was valid and there was no reason I could not use my account. Confused about the error, she sent me to another agent who told me, there was a hold on my account over paperwork. They sent me to another agent who said no, your account is being investigated for fraud. They sent me to their fraud department, who told me they could not do anything and would need to visit my local branch in person to get my funds and fix my account.I have no transportation so I attempted to reach out to M&T through email, it took a couple days for them to respond, when they did all they told me was to go into a branch location, have THEM call the number on the hold and they can fix everything.On the 18th of December 2022, I went to the M&T bank location at: 776 E 25th St, Baltimore, MD 21218, with my ID, fiancée and children. We were taken into a back office with a special banker, Sharon Hill. Sharon claimed she could see no hold or issue with the account. After attempting to get her to understand what the emails and ALL THE AGENTS before her said, we finally just tried to have them release the funds from the account so we could stop doing business with them. Sharon had me fill out a withdrawal slip and disappeared out of the room.When she returned, all she had was a business card with a phone number on it and told us if we ever want our money or to use the account, WE would have to call the number and have them fix it.When we called the number we were told a location/banker needs to call them and they could not help us.Not wanting to waste anymore time with people who obviously have mine and my families best interest last, I decided to see how to file against the establishment, and here I am.Any assistance is much appreciated as I have exhausted ALL feasible options with this institution and just want my money so I can warn EVERYONE and ANYONE to NEVER use M&T Bank.(To clarify, this is not the first time we have had issues with this apparently corrupt institution withholding our funds from our household. In November, there was an issue with using the $2,000 check that had been deposited into my fiancée's account and consequently costed us a $100 late fee on our rent for their refusal to disburse our funds then.)

If I could give 0 stars or negative stars I would. Never in my 60 years of banking have I dealt with such incompetence. Peoples United Bank was outstanding in every way. With M & T it is nothing but nightmare after nightmare. Too bad Peoples did not buy M & T. A lot could have been learned by M & T. You all need to go back to the drawing board. Total fiasco. You have no confidence in your customer base. And your google rating speaks for itself. We should be charging YOU fees!UPDATE: AND IT ONLY GETS WORSE! The app SUCKS. Tellers do not know how to do the simplest things! I HATE M & T BANK. You put the bah humbug in my holiday for sure. Worst banking system ever and I am 65!!!! NEGATIVE STARS.

Locked me out of my account. Couldn't help over the phone. I was headed to a fair, so I wanted cash and it wouldn't let access it. It would show the balance, but not allow withdrawals. Useless oversized bank

Honestly the worst bank possible, waited 4 months for my bank card and when I called and went to the bank they denied me ever trying to get a card, bank manager is terrible with customer service. Just get any bank besides m&t.

Was scammed online in July; cancelled transaction with the crook, called M&T immediately and was told the money would not go through until the 12th. On the 12th they put the money through after telling them I was scammed/robbed. Was promised that someone would get in touch, would receive paperwork to fill out & complete, told to keep all correspondence. 3 days later & no paperwork but the money was put through! Called the bank and got a finger waving that I shouldn't have done it; I was a victim of a crime &, well aware. I asked about the paperwork; was told it should be there soon. On 6th day nothing; sent follow up email and to this day no phone call or email back. I received a letter stat"after a through investigation..." the claim was denied. I'm not sure how thorough because no one has yet to call or paperwork filled out. Called customer service, who was only department who followed up about the way I was treated and was told it would have been different if it was a million dollar transaction not my puddly 2,000. After being a customer for 50 years this is how treated. My money is nothing to them and if there is a fraud department it's a joke because no one has contacted me. Would never use this bank or recommend & if I could give a negative rating I would. Unless you have millions or don't mind being lectured rather than having the department contact me,don't bother. Again customer service did what they could, but not able to do anything.

Worst banking experience, they never answer the phone calls, have to wait for over an hour to be then transferred to a new dept. Save yourself some time...Don't bank with them, ever. I will be changing banks asap.
