“I stopped in for a drop in WOD and had a great experience. Brendan greeted me when I arrived and gave me a tour of the gym. Liza was the coach for the class and I thought she did an excellent job. The WOD was fun, everyone was very friendly, and the vibe was great. Awesome gym.”

“I started going to Metabolic 5 months ago and I am absolutely in love! I never really worked out before, but as my 40th birthday was approaching I felt challenged to do something different. I previously had a membership to a traditional gym but I didn’t have the discipline to keep going. But my friend was going here for a while and her results were so impressive so I decided to try it. I’m so glad I did. This is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. My family probably hates it because I won’t shut up about it! It’s been so great for my self esteem (and my body obviously). Plus the coaches are wonderful- they make sure that every class is a challenge, but they’re also careful to ensure that your form is right and you’re not lifting too much so you don’t injure yourself. And I can tell that they count my success as their success. Worth every penny!!!”

“A great gym with a nice selection of kettlebells, free weights, two racks, plenty of equipment to get a well rounded workout in. Stephanie is great if you have questions and she puts up exercises so you don't have to think but you can also do your own thing. 24/7 access with a sauna is one of the only gyms in the area to offer this too.”

“I was so unsure about crossfit, having to modify things i was afraid of being judged. I couldn't be more wrong, I couldn't be happier coming to morning workouts, friday night lights, I look forward to seeing everyone and the coaches are fabulous working with anyone and their skill level.”

“If you’re looking for a more personal and “Taylored” gym—this is the one for you. If you’re on your way back to the gym or if you’re just dipping your toes into fitness—this gym’s smaller size makes it less (potentially) intimidating —proving that bigger isn’t always better.
The classes are challenging and always changing. Taylor pays attention to you—your progress and your goals. The atmosphere is welcoming and inclusive and its location is convenient. Perfect👍”

“I usually stick to traditional strength training at a regular gym, but every now and then I like to mix things up with CrossFit. I moved away from Albany a while ago, and since then I’ve tried a few different CrossFit gyms. I recently started at a new one, and nothing against it at all, but it reminded me how much I appreciated my time at CrossFit Spur.

What I appreciated most was the community. It felt welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely fun to walk into every day. John’s bodybuilding background meant we’d mix in fun things like bicep pump finishers, and Lauren had a firm but motivating coaching style that pushed you in the best way. During class, they really took the time to help each person with form and technique, so you never felt overlooked or unsure of what you were doing. Their dog Blanche was usually around too, which added to the friendly, personal feel of the place.

The gym was always super clean and organized, and they clearly took pride in their space and equipment. You could tell they truly cared about their members and the environment they were creating.

If you live in the area, this is absolutely where you should go. I’d honestly drive past other CrossFit gyms just to train here.”

“I’ve been a member for about 2 years now and I love it. I used to be so intimidated by the “CrossFit” crowd that it took me a bit to get into it. Albany CrossFit introduced me in a way that made me feel comfortable. ACF made it possible for me to become stronger, healthier, and more confident in myself. I feel encouraged to push myself to be better everyday. I met great people, made new friends and it’s all thanks to this community.”

“I joined Albany Strength a little over a month ago, and it’s honestly one of the best gyms I’ve trained at. The first thing I noticed was how serious the environment feels in a good way. People come here to work hard, but the atmosphere still feels welcoming whether you’re experienced with strength training or just getting started with fitness.

The equipment selection is excellent, especially if you’re into powerlifting, bodybuilding, or functional training. They have plenty of squat racks, benches, free weights, and conditioning equipment, so it never feels like you’re fighting for space during workouts. Everything is also kept very clean and organized, which makes the gym feel professional and well maintained.

What really stood out to me was the staff and coaching. Everyone I’ve spoken with has been knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely supportive. One of the trainers even gave me a few quick tips on improving my squat form, and it immediately helped with both comfort and depth. Small interactions like that show they actually care about helping members improve safely and effectively.

Another thing I appreciate is the community here. Unlike some gyms that can feel intimidating or full of ego, Albany Strength has a motivating environment where people encourage each other and stay focused on progress. Whether your goal is building strength, improving conditioning, or just staying consistent with workouts, this gym feels like a great place to train long term.”

“I just finished a group performance training session with Bryan and Antoine, and I am honestly blown away. Working out has always been a real struggle for me. I often feel intimidated, unmotivated, and unsure of what I’m doing. But this class completely changed that. Bryan and Antoine made the workout both challenging and engaging, pushed us outside our comfort zones without it ever feeling discouraging, and their knowledge, enthusiasm, and patience really stood out. They explained movements clearly, checked form, and encouraged us the whole time.

For the first time in a long time, I feel genuinely motivated to keep going. I’m eagerly waiting for the next class and really appreciate this newfound motivation their coaching has given me. I can’t wait to see the results!”

“I cannot say enough good things about Nora, Kristen, Amanda, Mary and the rest of the staff at Her Strength. I started going to Her Strength last year when I was about 25 weeks pregnant and had recently suffered an intercostal muscle strain. Nora curated a program that aided in my recovery and helped prepare me for the birth of my second child. During a postpartum recovery class she held my 2 month old so he wouldn't fuss while she walked me through pelvic floor exercises and other movements that greatly assisted in my postpartum recovery (I no longer pee when I sneeze). The new programing that began in January has been excellent and allows for one-on-one coaching and customized workouts. In sum, Her Strength is a wonderful gym community. Highly Recommend.”

“I tried out their Welcome Week promotion and had the opportunity to experience all of the classes at Anatomie, including cycling, conditioning, SweatX, and Hyrox prep, and I am truly blown away.

The staff is incredible, the space is spotless, and the level of detail that goes into each class really stands out. I have been to several gyms in the Capital Region, and this is something very special and unique.

What I love most is the refreshing energy. There are no egos, just healthy competition and a focus on personal growth. The absence of scoring creates an environment where you can truly feel at peace while still getting an amazing workout.

Highly recommend to anyone looking for a supportive and elevated fitness experience.”

“Looking for a place to learn, grow, and be empowered? Then look no further! Empire Defense is that place. I came in as a complete rookie ( and still am lol) but not once felt singled out. All the instructors are attentive, patient and encouraging! I look forward to my classes every week!”

“The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everyone seems to be very diligent about cleaning the machines after they use them. If you want to tan , you have your choice of a standing booth or one you lay down in. Overall I have had nothing but good experiences there.”

“Best Fitness Fuller Road is exactly the type of gym that I was looking for. They have excellent personal trainers, a variety of classes, and rarely is there a wait to use any of the machines or equipment. The gym’s overall vibe is chill and friendly. The people working out range from serious weightlifters and bodybuilders to beginners and elderly and people in rehab after strokes and serious injuries. I’ve approached several people doing interesting exercises asking what muscle groups they’re working on and they have always been helpful. I cannot recommend this gym highly enough.”

“The gym at RPI serves as an exceptional hub for the entire community, providing a vibrant space where both body and mind can rejuvenate. Spanning three levels, the gym boasts a spacious layout that caters to a variety of fitness needs, although occasional equipment outages may occur.

Upon entering, you’ll find the ground floor dedicated primarily to weight machines, offering a comprehensive selection for strength training enthusiasts. Ascending to the first floor, you'll discover a wide array of cardio equipment, ranging from stationary bikes to elliptical trainers, ideal for those seeking to elevate their heart rates. The second floor is a dynamic environment, primarily hosting club activities such as Zumba dance classes and karate sessions, adding a lively spirit to the space.

The gym tends to be particularly enjoyable when it’s less crowded, providing ample room to move and work out comfortably. However, it’s worth noting that a few treadmills often experience downtime, which can lead to challenges during peak hours, especially after afternoon classes when the facility is at full capacity. This surge in traffic can make it challenging to secure a treadmill or find available space in the weightlifting area. Overall, it’s a well-equipped facility that promotes a healthy lifestyle, provided you visit during quieter times!”

“This organization provides physical fitness and training for individuals with physical disabilities. I can't say enough about how they improve the health and quality of life of it's members. It's VERY inexpensive as well.”

“Used to be decently full and all machines were available within acceptable waiting time. Nowadays, it is very crowded and hard to walk around in. Finding a machine/bench/area that isn’t occupied is a struggle. I have no idea why there’s three potential areas for training and classes that are basically closed off for the rest of the people paying for the gym whenever they decide to. The turf room, the cage room, and the dancing room behind the cardio area. I have never seen all of the cardio machines in usage either. With 1 incline press, 2 bench presses, and 6 benches. Maybe there is a more optimal layout that can have more machines to accommodate the larger crowd. Apart from that, great staff and good atmosphere. Smoothies are amazing. Quality equipment, just a lot of people.”

“Love this gym. It’s my weekend gym where i escape my home gym that i have To go to during the week. Lighting is chill, Not abrasive and it’s not stifling hot. Always look forward to going here.”

“SEFCU gym is decent for the free gym for UAlbany students. However, machines are often OOO and rather than fixing it, they just put up tape for months and eventually bin the machine. The weights on the new bench press also don’t match the current weights. They need to fix their broken mirrors and clear out the vents because there’s very visible dust on all the vents. Also, poor ventilation / no fans to help facilitate airflow.”

“I’ve only been going to Planet Fitness for a few weeks, but I immediately felt welcome thanks to the assistant manager, Devin. He was incredibly friendly, always making time to say hi, and really created a positive environment. It’s a great gym, but he made the experience even better. Highly recommend!”
