“In Huntington, we visited the Museum of the Former Residence of the famous American poet Walt Whitman. As soon as you enter the museum, you arrive at the exhibition center, where you can learn in great detail about Whitman’s life and literary achievements, including several English versions and a Chinese translation of Leaves of Grass. He was born here in 1819. In the early 19th century, this was still a very typical Long Island country farm, and the house was a typical early 19th-century Federal farmhouse. The original home has been restored and arranged to reflect the environment it had before Whitman’s family moved out in 1823, making it very immersive.”

“I stopped into Northport Books this past Friday evening and what a nice space they’ve curated! A great selection of books, a separate section for the kids and even a nice seating space. They were super friendly, but gave me space to browse and not feel rushed. One of the employees, Gina, was great at pointing me toward looking at different titles and we had a lovely discussion about the new book out, Yesteryear. It’s definitely now on my reading list! The greatest part about having a local book store with locals working there is her and I were also able to chat about having kids in the district and great local food spots to try too. It left me with a great small town feel and I will definitely be back and have already shared with my book club to go in and check it out! Thanks Gina and Northport Books!”
