Katagiri Japanese Grocery is a popular destination for those seeking authentic Japanese convenience foods and groceries. The store offers a wide selection of onigiri (rice balls) with various flavors, which customers praise as particularly delicious. While the prepared chirashi bowls may not be as highly recommended, the overall food quality is generally satisfactory. The prices at Katagiri are considered reasonable, though some customers have reported finding the occasional hair in their rice balls, which may be a concern for some. The staff is described as friendly, and the store is known as a convenient one-stop-shop for Japanese items near Grand Central Station. One notable aspect is the high demand during peak hours, with long lines that can sometimes extend into the back of the store. Customers are advised to plan accordingly and be prepared to wait up to 20 minutes to complete their transactions. Despite this, Katagiri remains a popular destination for those craving authentic Japanese cuisine and groceries in the area.
