This was one of the best Mac repair shops to go in the City. When I became seriously ill and couldn't collect my computer and/or pay for the repair for another month, they were just wonderful to me. They had my loyalty. A few years ago, they assimilated the staff from Tekserve, a now-defunct store/repair joint that was on 23rd St. There was a good reason Tekserve went out of business--overpricing, rip off repairs and gouging. Still, for some reason, sooo many New Yorkers LOVED that dumb store. Since that time, when Mike, Mikes' owner, did a noble thing, Mike's Tech lost its luster. I got more than a few misdiagnoses. I was told one of my hard drives was dead when it wasn't. But too bad for me, they already took it out of the computer. When I got it home and tested it, it was fine. They wouldn't put it back in, said the computer was too old for them to work on. WHAT? It wasn't too old for them to mess up to start with. That was classic Tekserve nonsense and it blew me away. Mike's didn't charge me but I haven't been back there since. I hope they got or get better again.

Apple contracts out Genius Bar visits to them. Mike's Tech asked me about my AirPods. I told them I couldn't get them to work, I followed the instructions online to test them and that it's under warranty. Mike's Tech told me to stop by Apple Store to get a new pair since they didn't have any in stock. I went to Apple and they required a full diagnostic of the AirPods. Point of story is Apple contracts with this business who serves absolutely zero purpose other than wasting your time with an unnecessary visit.

Best place to get help with tech products. Went for a dysfunctional AirPod pro and they fixed it in minutes. Warm atmosphere, friendly and smart staff. Great vibe, great service.

I came into Mike's through Apple's authorized repair providers program to have my MacBook Air screen repaired. They were clear in their diagnosis, professional in their demeanor, and shipped my laptop back to me (I live outside of NYC) with it perfectly functioning. I highly recommend!

Appalling. I made an appointment for a screen repair through Apple.Only to be told on arrival that they don't stock any parts for recent iphones and that they don't bother to notify customers because they don't think people will receive them. Rude service and a waste of an afternoon.

Truly the kindest customer service I’ve received in a long time. Even though they didn’t “fix” my issues, they told me my options, how much it would cost, and other repair shops they recommended. So nice and didn’t charge for the advice. I feel so taken care of!

I had a wonderful experience at Mike’s Tech Shop. Angela was incredibly professional and helpful. She provided outstanding troubleshooting support and even though there was no way to retrieve the data from my very old and antiquated MacBook Air, I felt I was in very good hands and she did everything she could to help me. I am very grateful to have found this place and would recommend it to anybody needing assistance. Thank you Angela!

Yesterday went for my macbook pro repair. I wish I read the reviews before. They have no compassion or care or understanding for the customer unlike Apple stores. I highly recommend if you have warranty or Apple care go to Apple Stores not them. The level of service and experience I had was 1 out of 10, compare to Apple store. Initially I went to Apple store to get my computer fixed because the screen was dead black although the computer was working. Apple store told me they have to send it for repair and told me to bring my external storage next time to back up and they will give me extra monitor to do that since my screen was dead. I thought I go somewhere else authorized by apple it may be faster since they do it in the shop! Well, i was totally wrong! And going to Mike’s shop was for sure mistake. The guy started looking at my computer, then after couple of minutes asking about my phone number, address without telling me what’s going on with my computer. When I asked him why he was like I want to have the paper work ready!!! Making me uncomfortable because I don’t want to give all my information without knowing 100% you repair!! But all he cared was just rushing the process. And then after he started talking to another guy I asked him whats going on and he said they can fix it under warranty. All of this was in a way I don’t exist. I had to keep asking questions without them comforting me or explaining me what’s going on. Then I said I have to do back up and the other middle aged guy was like no it takes time!!!! You can’t do it here. I explained my screen is dead and I don’t have extra monitor at home. He kept saying no you can’t do it here. I was so upset i left and had to cancel my whole day to get an appointment in Apple store three hours later! They were sooo patient and friendly. Took the time to back up my computer themselves! Explaining to me everything with patience and making sure I am ok and understand what’s next. It took one hour and 15 minutes of their time and they were smiling and kind to me all this time. Because they are Apple and they know the worth of their products and know that you are in a state of stress when your $3000 computer is broken and they have to take care of you! Mike shop may be an authorized shop by Apple but their service and attitude is no where close! Very disappointed!

I am going to detail my experience with Mike's Tech Shop exactly as it happened. It speaks for itself.May 9th - I called Mike's tech shop and asked if they could create a disk image of my hard drive for each of the three profiles on my MacBook Pro. They replied yes and quoted me a price. I then scheduled an appointment for May 11th. May 11th - I arrived on time to my appointment. I had to wait to be seen, which is fine. I then met with an associate. I again asked them if they could create the disk image and they said yes. I gave them the logins for each of my profiles and tested them in front of the associate. They advised that they only needed one but I made sure to give them all three. They said that it would take five days to complete the request. I told them that I was moving to Los Angeles soon as I just graduated.May 12th - I received an email that my request would be completed by Wednesday, May 17th.May 15h - I received a call from Mike's Tech shop that they couldn't login to my laptop. I then went to Mike's tech shop the same day to show them that the same logins worked.May 16th - I received a call from Mike's Tech Shop that they could not create the disk image and would be returning my laptop to me.Now to my opinion: This is a store that is an Apple authorized retailer. In name only. That had multiple opportunities to tell me that they were not capable of creating a disk image. They quoted me a price over the phone, had me schedule an appointment and then visit them twice overall after that initial phone appointment and they didn't even try. And every time I went in I was greeted rudely and treated very poorly throughout the entire appointment. Do not go here. Go anywhere else in the city because you will be treated better and hopefully you will get an honest answer about their capabilities, like actually trying to login to a laptop when you have the correct login stored in your system. I would have gone anywhere else and it was important that I get this done before I left New York. Don't make my mistake. Say no to Mike.

Terrible service and unfriendly to non white customers. Also provided inaccurate information regarding the repair I needed. Very impatient employee. Didn’t know this place had such horrible reviews: now I know why. Think twice about taking your business there. This place couldn’t hold a candle to Tekserve! They are missed. Definitely regret not checking the BBB and google reviews before choosing this terrible business.

I've been in to Mike's a couple times recently and they are very nice and helpful. Kai really was a 'problem solver' and told me about all the options that could help out with my laptop questions. Really appreciated it and recommend!

Always a reliable go to for most Apple products, new or open box deals, repairs and general questions.Recent experience has been fine and I never ran into the bad/rude employee two one star reviewers mentioned- hopefully he was fired by now and replaced with decent staff like Mike’s usually hires.5 years back they saved all the data from an older MacBook Pro that froze on my desk I’d left in an apt that lost all heat for days during a wicked intense cold spell that produced 2 days of -10f cold temps plus nasty blizzard conditions.. when I returned from a short trip a few days later, I found a warped metal cover, cracked screen and screwed up battery issue.. a real life horror scene. I always babied that laptop and never saw a laptop so hideously damaged. A single photo would’ve been a viral “omg” sensation if that was a thing then, lol.I dreaded the diagnosis, fearing all data including thousands of precious photos, custom audio and music data was lost.. I’d backed up some but not all. Even they weren’t sure anything could be saved, but they did salvage all the data, transferred the miraculously undamaged hard drive it to a new inexpensive used MacBook pro model, upgraded the memory and had it back to me within a few days for a reasonable cost and lengthy guarantee. Never had issues with it since. Whew.Been a happy customer for over a decade and that’s just one reason why. Always recommend them to people and go there first for many Apple product needs, repairs or questions. Regardless what one bad reviewer said they don’t just take cash- any employee saying that is scammer- call/email the owner and let them know his name and if there’s no quick reply file a report with the NYC consumers affairs dept.Staff is constantly knowledgable, mellow and honest. Prices are fair, service steady, repair turnaround quick, they never overcharge or try to upsell unnecessary things you don’t need, and aren't pushy or impatient.Shop feels cozy in a cool old brick walled, worn wood floor and high ceiling space. Love the blend of modern with historic, in a great neighborhood close to other stuff and major subway and bus lines. NYC is lucky to have a unique shop like this.

I needed a hard drive removed from an old PowerBook that the Genius Bar wouldn't touch literally because the computer was too old. I made a reservation at Mike's, and they proposed a fair price. They said it might take a few days, but then because things were slow, they were actually able to do it the same day. Friendly, knowledgable staff. I'd go back, especially since Tekserve is gone.

I had a great experience at this shop after my phone decided to randomly freeze. I was able to book an appointment same day (within an hour!) and they fixed the issue and gave my phone a diagnostics test too. The staff were super friendly as well!Definitely recommend this shop!

You do NOT "wanna be like Mike".I first came across Mike's Tech Shop in October 2019. I requested a backup of my iPhone and purchased an external drive for the data. My interactions with the Salesperson, Alberto Moreno, and the Technician, Rafael Guzman, were amicable and professional. I dealt mostly with Rafael who was very polite and responsive. Although a bit pricey, I was pleased with the customer experience from start to finish. I recommended Mike's Tech Shop to several friends and vowed to return again.Fast forward to this morning. What happened? I remember how pleasant everyone was (in the store and on the phone). But when I called just now, the individual I spoke to was rude and simply not helpful. I asked for Rafael and was told he no longer worked there. I asked for Alberto ... same. I then realized that the nice people at Mike's found work elsewhere. I don't blame them. I couldn't work for someone like the guy who answered my call. Seemed as though he was upset ... with his life.He said that he could not provide me with pricing over the phone. Okay. And when I asked to speak to a technician, he said "they're all busy". Stern. At no point did he offer to have someone call me back. He knew I was a repeat customer, yet didn't ask my name. Mike, if you're reading this, your RECEPTIONIST is killing your business. You have lost a returning customer, the customers I referred, new referrals I would have made, and potential customers reading this.Take a hike ...
