“Added: I would not bring rabbits anywhere else in Rochester. Dr. Scarpulla and staff helped care for my bunnies and guinea pig after they were affected by an electrical fire. I was out of town and they squeezed my pets in immediately and checked them out and bathed them because they were completely covered in smoke. My family brought they in and were planning on covering the costs for me and instead they did not charge us at all and it was $400 in services from checking their lungs, etc. THEN the front desk staff created a fundraiser for us and a bunch of families donated. I’m glad to be part of the Southtowne community.
I moved my rabbits here from another vet I wasn’t happy with- Very happy with staff and services from the front desk staff to the techs and vets here. I put the wrong time in my calendar and they even accommodated me which was amazing because I had to take the morning off work. I asked about rabbit vaccine and they said they had a list I could get on but ordered them almost immediately and called me when they were in. Edit: when my rabbit passed the care they gave helped me get through it. My other rabbits and guinea pig still get great care here including vaccines, nail trims, teeth check, prescribing antibiotics immediately whenever risk if infection, and shaving my rabbit that I adopted matted.”
“This experience sealed the deal with me leaving a review here. Someone thought of the creative idea to put one of my ferrets in the bag I brought with them (for the record, it was very funny). I didn’t leave their carrier with them and they plopped him right on top of his bedding in the bag and zipped it up. What a funny surprise! He was apparently surprisingly content in there too lol.
Every experience I’ve had here has been great. The front of house is always very friendly, the techs are nice and can answer most of my questions, and Dr Hach has always been very thorough with my furry kiddos. Very happy at this vets office!”
“With the vet situation in Rochester being what it is, major waits for appointments, little space at urgent cares, we had to take our cat to Blue Pearl in Buffalo. Since she needed further care, we tried Coldwater. Not only did they fit us in same day, but the attentiveness and expertise of the staff/vet was amazing. Dr. Gonzalez in particular was great. And from the friendly front desk to the cleanliness of the building to the professional care, we felt assured we were in good hands. Kitty is all better now!”

“Whenever I call, no one answers the phone. I have to leave a message and they schedule an appointment without asking if it’s convenient. Other than that, everyone there is efficient, although, not everyone is friendly. I do receive good service.”
“Outstanding practice, great docs and staff. We have five cats and one dog, and all have been going there since 2004 (it's 2015 now). The compassion and insight of the docs (and with six or seven pets at any given time, we've seen all four docs at one time or another) is exceptional. There's little turn-over in the staff, which speaks well of the practice as well. In terms of the staff quality, they're dolls, but they don't lack in professionalism. I'd be comfortable recommending Penfield Vet to anyone. Update: It's 2026. They've been a Thrive practice for awhile now. They're still awesome. We bounced between Rochester and Syracuse for a bit, so we've had 5-6 different Vet practices. They're all a little different, but none better than Penfield.”

Update After a week:
Having a dog isn’t a fashion statement.
It’s commitment, responsibility, patience, and care.
We took that responsibility the day Milky became part of our family over a decade ago. Recently, she developed a small scrape on the edge of her ear tip. Every time she shook her head, it would start bleeding again. It wasn’t an ear infection, but the steroids and antibiotics prescribed earlier weren’t really helping the healing process.
Over the weekend, things got worse. I called the clinic, explained the situation, and they asked me to bring her in. They examined her carefully, gave us a few practical suggestions, and thankfully those actually started helping her feel more comfortable.
She’s not fully healed yet, but she is recovering, and that itself means a lot to us.
Thank you for treating my dog with genuine care and compassion instead of just rushing us out. Seeing her finally a little calmer and more comfortable made a huge difference.
If your pet truly needs urgent attention and proper care, I would definitely recommend this place. Clean environment, friendly staff, and people who actually listen and try to help.”

My only complaint is that they were much kinder to my dog than to me. The intake person was very professional. However, the vet and her tech were very judgmental and spoke at me, not to me. I know my dog’s nails need to be trimmed, but getting her vaccinated was much more important to me at the moment!”

“My family has been coming to Brighton animal hospital since I was 8 years old. I’m 74 now and still bring my german shepherd, Stella, there. I have no doubt that all my dogs and cats have received the best care possible. Great staff that understands how important our pets are to us. Dr Mike Foley ( retired now), Dr Miner and Dr Peter VanVankias have taken great care of my dogs and cats. Shout out to Dawn, Lisa and Tracy too.
Dr Hawkins operated recently on Stella when we thought she had cancer. It was a complex surgery and included spaying as well as tumor removal and was 100% successful. The BEST part of this was when Dr Hawkins called about the pathology report, which was negative for cancer. She sounded so happy and excited to be giving me the good news. Stella wasn’t just “another dog”.
I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”
